Alvin Henry Schweke, Ladysmith, died Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Rusk County Memorial Hospital of cancer.
He was born July 9, 1909, in the Town of Brighton – Spencer, Wis., the son of William and Wilhelmina (Luepke) Schweke.
He had lived in the Spencer area for 25 years and in Brantwood for seven years, and came to Rusk County in 1958.
He and Bernice Anderson were married on Sept. 14, 1934, in Minnesota.
Mr. Schweke owned and operated Pla-Mor Lanes for 20 years and also worked at Rite Way Oil Co. He was a cheesemaker for 31 years.
He was affiliated with St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; a son, Jim of Pewaukee, Wis., a daughter, Janice Hakala of Brantwood; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Clifford of Cottage Grove, Minn,; and two sisters, Lenora Zettl of Milwaukee and Estella Gunia of Spencer, Wis.
He was preceded in death by a son, Vernon, and two brothers, Erwin and Rudolph.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Edgar Barg officiating. Burial was in Spencer West Cemetery, Spencer, Wis.
Visitation was Tuesday afternoon at the McElravy-Geier Funeral Home and an hour before services at the church on Wednesday.
