Margaret Lemmer, age 93 passed away October 7, 2009.
Mom was born to Robert Martin, Sr., & Romana Karl in 1916.
She was the youngest of the 16 children and the last one to leave this earth.
Mom married Dad, Ralph Julius Lemmer on June 9, 1941.
They had 13 children . A daughter passed away at birth and Mark died in 2004. Steve Lemmer, her grandson, preceded her in death also.
She is survived by eleven children: Ralph Jr., (Adinun Samaknarong), Edgar, Charles (Vicky Kruopidowski), Edgar, Jerome (Ann Ruhoff), Tomahawk, William (Rita Knauf), Edgar, Robert (Sharon Wendt), Edgar, Anthony (LouAnn Miller), Virginia (Jack Ganser), Mosinee, Mary (Eugene Freese), Edgar, Paul (Lisa Hall), Edgar, Kathy (Arthur Nowak), Edgar, Christopher (Sarah Nagel), Athens.
Mom has sixty one grandchildren and seventy five great grandchildren.
Mom and dad lived a full and happy life on the farmstead in the township of Cassel. Dad and the boys farmed and mom made sure all the vegetable gardens were tended to and produced enough food for a family of fourteen people and all the friends that came along with 12 kids. If you couldn't find mom, you could be sure that she was in her flower gardens. She was always humming or singing and was a happy lady.
Our mom had a great devotion to our Lord and the Blessed Mother and prayed the rosary everyday of her life as long as we can remember.
Mom and dad loved to go to dances. That's how they met. They were both young and loved to dance and that's where they fell in love...on the dance floor.
They spent 34 years married and as far as we can remember, they were very much in love with each other. They loved to dance after church on Sundays right in the living room and in the evenings would walk down to Scotch Creek which h ran through our farm. They would hold hands and have their time together.
Although dad had joined our Lord in 1975, mom continued to uphold her heritage on the farmstead in Cassel, then to her home in Edgar and eventually Colonial Nursing home in Colby where she lived till now.
It was a sure bet that you could find mom helping her community through donations of rosaries and hand made blankets, fostering children, teaching CCD, delivering meals to the elderly, spreading the word of Jesus and hope for everyone. Her words were her actions!
Mom had a passion for all living things and this blossomed with her gardening abilities. Gardening continues to be the life focus for many of her children, grandchildren and even her great grandchildren. She had a desire to teach love and hard work with every situation that she encountered and considered everyone of them a possibility. She was a very positive person and she was nice to be around. As she would say, "They are a gift given to us by the Lord."
Mom had the most beautiful singing voice. I always thought she sounded like an angel singing as it was so clear. Last Christmas we played Silent Night on the piano and she played along on her harmonica and everyone loved it and it made my mom smile. Todd at the nursing home told mom that he didn't know she was so talented and had such a beautiful voice. Mom was so proud that he had given her that recognition and you could just see her heart swell up. Thanks Todd and thanks to everyone there that cared for our mom. We love and appreciate all of you.
Lastly we want to say that our mom had a strong mind and never let anyone intimidate her. She lived by a strong set of principles and wouldn't back down from her belief. She would write letters to the Wausau Daily Herald voicing her concerns and her opinions. As her kids, there were times we wished she weren't so vocal and maybe wouldn't use her name but as adult children of this amazing woman and mother, we couldn't be prouder than we are of her and who she was. We love you mom and thanks for passing along your strength to us. We will also try to pass this on to our children.
For now, it is time to dance in the heavens with Dad and rest.
