Stephen G. Toelle, age 58, Stratford, died on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at his
home in the Town of Cleveland, Marathon County.
Stephen George Toelle was born on June 24, 1951, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Wausau,
to Lawrence and Marjorie (Gust) Toelle, Stratford.
While remaining single, he continued to reside at the homestead of his parent’s
farm now owned by Paulette and son Tim Spindler. He attended Balsam Grade
School, Town of Cleveland, Stratford Middle School, and graduated from Stratford
High School with the class of 1969.
He graduated in 1971 from North Central Technical School, Wausau, with a degree
in electronics. He was a member of the Balsam 4-H and took his woodworking
projects to the Wausau Fair.
He was a lifelong member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ and served as its
president from 2008 until the present time. He worked as a carpenter at
Wisconsin Homes, Marshfield, and at the present time at Kolbe and Kolbe, Wausau.
He especially enjoyed collecting Star Wars memorabilia, motorcycle riding, and
campouts at his uncle’s “Wally World” and VFW steak feeds.
He is survived by his parents; a sister, Lauren (Alfred) Schulz of Elkhorn; a
brother, Mark (Helen) Toelle of Marshfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. He
is also survived by uncles, George Toelle of Wausau, William (Irene) Gust of
Wausau, Walter (Corolla) Gust of Richland Center; aunts, Joyce Engel, of Rice
Lake, Phyllis (Gordon) Knutson of New Berlin, Edie Ache of Phoenix, Ariz., and
Helen Kratzer of Webster.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Henry and Louise Toelle;
maternal grandparents, Otto and Johanna Gust; uncles, Edmund (Gertrude) Gust,
and Otto (Peggy) Gust; aunts, Goldie (John) Stick, Elvera (Robert) Schulte,
Ellenora (Elmer) Reinke, and Marie (David) Meilahn; and great niece Emily Ann
Carlson.
The family received relatives and friends at Ebenezer United Church of Christ in
the Town of Cleveland on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2009, from 10 a.m. until the time of
memorial services at 12:00 p.m. Rev. Beverly Rehfeldt presided and Allene
Mueller was the organist for congregational singing and special music was
provided by Julie and Katie Baxter as vocalists. Burial will take place at a
later date in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be designated in his name to Ebenezer United Church of Christ.
