Mary Anna Pecher, age 95 years of Abbotsford, formerly of Athens and Dorchester, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Golden LivingCenter-Continental Manor in Abbotsford, where she had resided since June 29, 2007.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2008 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Milan. The Rev. Charles J. Hiebl, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church in Milan. Serving as her pallbearers will be Scott, Mark and Daniel Pecher, Kenneth and Arlin Soczka, and Kurt and Jeff Miller.
She attended St. Anthony’s Parochial School in Athens and graduated from the eighth grade. At the age of 18, Mary married George J. Pecher on August 24, 1932 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Athens.
Together Mary and George farmed and started raising their children, all in the Town of Johnson in Marathon County. Along with handling farming operations Mary also worked at the Athens Canning Factory, Standard Container in Edgar, and Marathon Cheese Co. where she was employed for 13 years until her retirement. Her husband George passed away Nov. 11, 1985.
Mary was an avid fisherwoman and loved tending to her garden. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, making quilts. She was even playing bingo up until the time of her death. Mary was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Milan and a former member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester and also belonged to their respective Altar Societies.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; six sisters; two brothers; one great-grandson; and one great-great-grandson.
