DEDICATION

To the men and women, the fathers and mothers of old Zion, who labored faithfully and loyally to establish, maintain, and perpetuate their faith in Christ and in this church; —

To the sons and daughters of Zion, who, mindful of their spiritual heritage, are carrying on the work of the church with unabated and undiminished vigor; —

To the youth of Zion, who have caught the vision and the spirit of those who gave so much, and are carrying on with the zeal of our founders to build and labor for God;

These pages are affectionately dedicated.

May this book be an inspiration to all of us members and friends of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, that we would rededicate ourselves anew to the service of our Lord, His church and our fellowmen.

Blessed by God, may we become a blessing to others.

THE STATEMENT OF DOCTRINE

The Holy Scripture of the Old and New Testaments are recognized as the Word of God and the ultimate rule of Christian faith and practice.

The doctrinal standards of the Evangelical and Reformed Church are: the Heidelburg Catechism, the Augsburg Confession, and Luther’s Catechism.  They are accepted as an authoritative interpretation of the essential truth taught in the Holy Scriptures.

Wherever these doctrinal standards differ, ministers, members and congregations, in accordance with the liberty of conscience inherent in the Gospel, are allowed to adhere to the interpretation of one of these confessions.  However, in each case the final norm is the Word of God.

In its relation to other Christian communions the Evangelical and Reformed Church shall constantly endeavor to promote the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace.

‘Whoever you are that worships here, in whatever household of faith you were born, whatever creed you now possess, if you come to this sanctuary to seek the God in whom you believe, to worship and pray or to rededicate  yourself anew to the Triune God you are welcome.  Leave not this church without a prayer for yourself, your friends, and all who worship here; for our nation, and all nations who desire one human family under the Fatherhood of one God.’
