United Church of Christ plans 50th anniversary activities

During March and April, the United Church of Christ in Neillsville will conclude its 50th anniversary celebration with special worship services, dinners and programs.

March 1, 1959, Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church and First Congregational Church officially adopted a basis of union.  Two weeks later, the new United Church elected its first officers.

To commemorate these events, Dr. David Moyer, Minister of the Wisconsin Conference of the United Church of Christ, will preach at a communion service March 1, and afterward the church will celebrate with a banquet and historical program.  March 15, church members are invited to wear 1950s “Sunday Clothes” for worship, which will be followed by a potluck dinner and historical skit in the manner of the 1950s television show “You Are There”.  To complete its anniversary year, the church will host the annual meeting of the Northwest Wisconsin Association of the United Church of Christ, April 26, 2009.
