The Clark County Historical Society (CCHS) met at the Old School in Owen Saturday, Nov. 6. The Friends of the Old School were proud to host the CCHS and show the wonderful historical room they have set up. A delicious potluck lunch was enjoyed by 27 members representing the local historical societies of Stanley, Colby, Owen, Thorp, Loyal, Neillsville and Willard.
The business meeting was opened with a presentation by Dee Zimmerman, whose “Good Old Days” page is enjoyed by everyone who reads The Clark County Press. Zimmerman congratulated the members for their work preserving and sharing local history and encouraged everyone to write down as much local and family history as they can. After her little talk, Zimmerman was presented with a plaque honoring her for her work preserving the history of Clark County.
Reports were received from the secretary, the treasurer, the essay contest committee, and the grant application committee. After minor changes to the constitution that had been recommended by the Board of Directors were approved by the majority, the election of officers was held. The new officers will serve for staggered terms for better continuity. The new slate of officers includes President Charlotte Tetzlaff, first Vice President Joan Knack, second Vice President Marian Ray, Secretary Shirley Anderson, and Treasurer H. ‘Snick’ Quicker.
Representatives of the local historical societies gave reports of their work and successes in 2010. These reports and other information will appear in the next CCHS newsletter within the next month.
The summer meeting/picnic of the CCHS will be hosted at the York Center Methodist Church in June 2011.
