Neillsville’s Memorial Medical Center (MMC) celebrated the completion of its Memory Gardens with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday, Sept. 21.
MMC Health and Rehabilitation, assisted living and hospital patients, hospital staff and nearby Neillsville residents will be able to enjoy the nine Memory Gardens located behind the hospital off Ferguson Street and three additional Memory Gardens on the other side of the hospital.
“It’s a big community project,” said MMC Activity Supervisor Candy Marg, who oversaw the project.
MMC staff helped plant garden flowers in June and will help with garden upkeep.
MMC CEO Scott Polenz and Marg spoke to those attending the Monday evening ceremony.
Polenz recognized those involved in the project, including Sue Winch of McKay Nursery; Boon Construction for providing black dirt; Brorson Construction for labor, equipment, removing old cement, completing cement sidewalks; Goetz Construction and Excavation; the Men’s Club for removing old sidewalk and forming new ones; and Westwood Kitchens for building the benches.
MMC staff volunteers spent three hours planting flowers and plants in hot weather during the summer said Marg, who also recognized the hospital maintenance department.
Many donors, whose names are on garden benches, attended the ceremony.
