The Highground?s Volunteer Appreciation Potluck was held Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Loyal American Legion.

Everyone enjoyed an evening of food, socializing and entertainment provided by the Neillsville High School Choir.

Ken Jennings and Jim Hauge received the Bronze Level President Awards and Highground Volunteer Awards.  Jerry Smith will also receive these awards when he returns from his winter vacation.

The President?s Volunteer Service Award recognizes and thanks Americans of all ages who contribute over 100 hours of service during one year.  Award recipients receive an official President?s Volunteer Service Award pin, a personalized certificate of achievement, a note of congratulations from the President of the United States and a letter from the President?s Council on Service and Civic Participation.

Volunteers who received The Highground Award for their service included Merle Bartsch, Cindy Boon, Kathryn Droste, Bill Flemal, Larry Genteman, Al and Terri Johnson, Louie Kessler, Skip Klabon, Dick O?Brien, Jim Ottman, Rory Schutte, Don Streiff and Ron and Nona Zepplin.

Each received a Highground key chain and a certificate saluting their dedication to The Highground?s mission of healing and education through their volunteer service in 2009.

Funds raised from a silent auction and 50/50 drawing will be donated to the Clark County Aging Office Food Pantry, along with the additional $176 in donations volunteers gave.  Kirk and Nancy Rodman will match those additional funds.

The Highground recognizes all of its volunteers for their general contribution in funds, time and talents. The Highground also recognizes Ned Carlson and Andy Rueth for being resident auctioneers and for their ?entertainment.?

Thos who have a few extra hours and would like to volunteer their time and abilities during the spring or fall cleanups or as a porch greeter, The Highground could use their help.  For more information, call The Highground at 715-743-4224.

Volunteers and contributors are the heart of The Highground.
