Highground displays fireworks & holds celebration
The Highground recognized Independence Day with a fireworks display Friday, July 2, and a celebration Sunday, July 4.
A large crowd enjoyed the display of fireworks Friday night at The Highground.
Kevin Witt of Neillsville donated fireworks while others assisted him in presenting the display. Hardee?s sponsored this year?s event and brought ice cream treats to The Highground for attendees to enjoy.
Don Simpson and other American Legion Riders of Wisconsin District 7; along with The Highground volunteers, helped direct traffic Friday night.
For those who didn?t get to see the fireworks Friday night, fireworks will probably be displayed again in 2011.
Folks gathered on the plaza Independence Day Sunday, July 4; the Liberty Bell ringing signaled the start of the ceremony to celebrate the nation?s birthday.
The Neillsville Color Guard presented colors, as Tim Rueth played taps. Korean veteran Bob Berglund spoke about celebrating the nation?s freedom and honoring the servicemen who keep the country free. As is tradition at The Highground, the names of Wisconsin soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan were read.
Volunteers and contributors are the heart of The Highground. The Highground?s mission is healing and education. ?The Highground is a place for all of us.?
