Friends of The Highground Dinner held

The friends of The Highground Dinner was held Saturday, Feb. 26, at Fannie?s Supper Club near Neillsville.  Social hour began at 5 p.m. with dinner following at 6 p.m.  Invitations were mailed to volunteers who donated their time, equipment and/or dollars totaling over $1,000 in 2010.

The Highground Volunteer General manager Kirk Rodman welcomed guests. Following a family style dinner, everyone enjoyed a presentation of The Highground song, sung by Veteran Dan Krehbiel with a backdrop of The Highground?s tributes.

Rodman gave a special thanks to those whose generous support is so deeply appreciated and honored them with a plaque.

As part of The Highground?s mission of healing and education, The Highground recognized ?those whose spirit touches us and makes The Highground so special.?  This year, Charles Neff Jr. received the Spirit of The Highground Award.  Neff has made a difference in the lives of many.

A second Spirit of The Highground Award was presented to Chet Krause at a later date.  Neff and Krause went the extra mile.

?The Highground is not about what you see; it?s about what you don?t see ? the hundreds of volunteers working to make this a welcome home for all veterans and visitors.?  Mark your calendar and set aside April 20 through April 23; come and enjoy the company of good friends while sharing in the satisfaction of a job well done during The Highground?s annual Spring Work Week.

Volunteers and contributions are the heart of The Highground.

?Our mission is healing and education. The Highground is a place for all of us.?

The Highground also recognized Neillsville?s Hardee?s restaurant for sponsoring The Highground?s fireworks, donating queuing lines for the Learning Center and donating to a Three Soldiers Study.  Pictured are: Greg Foye, Highground Board chair; Mary and Al Williams, and Dave Droste of Hardee?s; and Kirk Rodman.
