The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes and thanks Americans of all ages who contribute over 100 hours of service during one year. Award recipients receive an official President’s Volunteer Service Award pin, a personalized certificate of achievement, a note of congratulations from the U. S. President and a letter from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.

Volunteers Barb Barber, Merle Bartsch, Cindy Boon, Bill Connelly, Mary Dick, Jim Farmer, Bill Flemal, Ron Fregien, Fern Fregien, Larry Genteman, Jim Hauge, Jim Henchen, Skip Klabon, Betty Nemitz, Jim Ottman, Charles Stumpner, Ron Zepplin and Nona Zepplin were awarded The Highground Award for their volunteer service. Each of them received a Highground laser box and a certificate saluting their dedication to The Highground’s mission of healing and education through their volunteer service in 2010.

Over $600 was raised from the silent auction, crazy auction and 50/50 drawing and will be donated to the Clark County Aging Office Food Pantry.

The Highground recognizes all its volunteers for their generous contribution in funds, time and talents.  Ned Carlson and Andy Rueth were The Highground’s auctioneers.

The Highground could use the help of those with a few extra hours who would like to volunteer their time and abilities during the spring or fall cleanup or as a porch greeter. For more information, call The Highground at 715-743-4224.

Volunteers and contributors are the heart of The Highground.

Highground volunteers Greta Ross (left) and Louie Kessler (right) presented Clark County Aging Office Director Mary Sladich a $650 check for the food pantry. The funds were raised at The Highground’s Volunteer Appreciation Potluck through auctions and a 50/50 raffle. The Aging Office delivered several hundred boxes of food to the elderly at Christmastime, according to Sladich.  Most of these folks range in age from 85 to 100 years and are still able to remain in their homes because of the services provided by the Aging Office. Highground volunteer’s support is greatly appreciated by the Aging Office and will help it continue to reach out to elderly community members, Sladich said.  (Contributed photo)
