CECIL TORMEY POST WILL DEDICATE NEW LEGION HALL

On next Sunday, June 4^th, members of Cecil Tormey Post No. 118 of the American Legion, will be hosts to the Seventh District Convention which is an annual affair.  Representatives from the eight counties of the districts , viz: LaCrosse, Adams, Sauk, Monroe, Vernon, Jackson and Clark Counties will be brought in conference by District Commander L. V. Weisensel, of LaCrosse, at the Rialto Theatre at ten o’clock Sunday morning.  State Commander George Howitt and State Service Officer Jas. Burns will be in attendance as will past State Commander C. W. Dawson.  Other local and well known speakers will address the meeting.

Dedication of the new Club House of the local American Legion Post will also take place on this memorable occasion.  The building which was completed last fall, is 30 x 60 feet in size, and a reproduction of its exterior is shown in this issue of “The Courier.”  It will be open for inspection by the public all day Sunday.

June 4^th, 1933, will indeed be a day to be remembered by the people of Thorp and vicinity.  It will be an “American Legion Day” and the Post members, together with public spirited citizens, will do all in their power to make welcome, the visitors from the surrounding towns and Southern Wisconsin.  Cecil Tormey Post is certainly lucky in having Thorp designated as the 7^th District Convention City at this time.

Following is a program of the events of the day:

9:00 a.m. – Registration of Legionnaires at Rialto Theatre.

10:00 a.m. – 7^th District Conference at Rialto Theatre.

Noon – Meal served at Odd Fellows Hall by Catholic Lady Foresters.

12:30 p.m. – Dedication ceremony of New Legion Club House.

12:30 p.m. – Baseball game between Thorp Red Sox and Brownsville.

2:30 p.m. – Military and Industrial Parade.  Among some of the attractions in the parade will be the Headquarters Troop 53^rd Cavalry Brigade of Stanley, the Stanley High School Band, Chippewa Falls Boy Scout Drum corps, Eau Claire and Menomonie Legion Drum Corps, Ladies Auxiliary Drum Corps, Forty and Eight Box Car and Engine of Menomonie, Herr Pumpernickel’s Dutch Band, Commercial Floats, the Owen Band, Etc.

7:30 p.m. – Convention Banquet at Club House.

Dances in the evening will be held at the Legion Club House and also at the Mileaway Pavilion, one mile north of Thorp, which will be under Legion supervision.

Music by the Dutch band and other entertainment at the Legion Dug Out will be continuous throughout the day.
