The 10th Regiment of Heavy Artillery was organized in Sackets Harbor, New York 31 December 1862. Members of the Regiment served at Fort Richmond and Sandy Hook, New York Harbor, and the defenses of Washington, D. C.
The Regiment left Washington 24 May 1864, and provided services in:
4th Brigade, 1st Division, 18th Corps, from 5 June 1864;
1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 18th Corps, from 24 June 1864;
1st Brigade, Colonel Gustavus A. DeRussy's Division, 22nd Corps, from August 1864;
The Regiment, was honorably discharged and mustered out at Petersburg, Virginia 23 June 1865, and the men not entitled to be discharged at that time were transferred to Companies E, F and G, of the 6th New York Volunteer Artillery 19 July 1865.
