Paige Hutchings, a junior at Thorp High School, was recently
nominated to take part in the 2010 Down Under Spirit Championships to be
held on the Gold Coast of Australia in the summer of 2010. After
trying out at the Raider Classic competition on December 12, 2009,
Hutchings received her nomination to take part in the international
experience. Hutchings will join a team of cheerleaders who have
tried out at various cheer camps and competitions throughout the state.
The trip to Australia, scheduled for June 22 through July 5,
includes athletes from around the world. Hutchings will compete in
the 2010 Down Under Spirit Championships, Australia’s international
cheer, dance and pom event. Later in the two week trip, the “Cheer
Down Under” program will take Hutchings, along with the other athletes
to the Cheer Fest event in New Zealand. Hutchings is currently a
member of the varsity cheer squad and is practicing, a routine for
Cheerleading Regional’s with her team, set to take place this coming
weekend in Wisconsin Rapids. Hutchings has been cheerleading
since she was in second grade, beginning her cheer career in the summer
school program, which she continued through the fifth grade. Once
in middle school, Hutchings joined the school’s cheer squad, continuing
every year until presently. Receiving a multitude of awards for
her achievements in cheer, including Major Motivator, Sensational Smile,
and Most Valuable Player, Hutchings is set to extend her knowledge and
experience in the cheer field. Congratulations Paige, for this
