The Thorp American legion Auxiliary Unit 118 celebrated its 73rd
year on Monday, may 3, at the Legion Hall with a potluck dinner and a
special program. Diane Weggen, current President of the Legion
Auxiliary, addressed the Legion members, thanking them for their years
of service, along with handing out certificates for outstanding service
from home and from out in the field. In attendance, along with the
legion members were the Department’s First Vice President Joan Chwala
and the Department Junior Chair Theresa Schindler. Weggen also
gave recognition to all the former Presidents, the current officers, and
many specific thanks and awards to members for their time serving the
Legion. Ms. Poppy, Caitlin Rosemeyer, and last year’s Ms. Poppy,
Katarina Petranovich, were not only recognized for their service, but
they also sang “I’m Proud to be an American,” for all of the
Legionnaires. After their performance, Weggen filled the members in on
all of the great things that are happening through the Legion, like the
latest project, the creation of Camo Quilts.
