100 Years Ago (1907)

Reseburg Ramblings – The home of Joe Meyer is quarantined for scarlet fever, his twelve-year-old son Albert being ill with the disease.
 
Stanley Sunbeams – Another railroad accident happened here on Tuesday of last week in which Mrs. Ellen McGill, mother of Mrs. T. W. McKale, was instantly killed by the noon passenger train on the east crossing. -- After much ado Prof. H. C. Stair was on the 14th inst., elected as principal of the high school for the ensuing year.
 
Rev. E. W. Blakeman has been elected by the official board of the M. E. Church at Marshfield to succeed Rev. A. B. Soule as pastor.
 
75 Years Ago (1932)
 
The members of the local America Legion Post turned down the proposition of purchasing the old Howard building at a special meeting on Monday evening of last week.
 
Gordon Wolf recently purchased a lot north of the Village Fire Station, being a portion of the H. DeForth one-acre lot and has a crew of men digging a cellar preparatory for the erection of a new residence.
 
Around the Corner – Joseph Czech has been appointed clerk for the remaining term to take the place of Barney Pogodzinski who was forced to resign.
 
Mitterhoffer News – Most of the traffic nowadays is loads of hay going in all directions.
 
50 Years Ago (1957)
 
The City of Stanley is running short of aldermen. Two members of the council resigned last week, according to reports, leaving six seats to be filled in April.
 
With below normal rainfall received last fall and below normal snowfall during the winter months as acute fire season could develop as soon as the ground is not snow covered, was the report of Arthur M. Papke, Forest Ranger.
 
25 Years Ago (1982)
 
James Benzmiller, President of Acorn, a manufacturer and marketer of barn equipment, recently presented Joe Lato of Lato Corporation of Thorp with a plaque inducting the Lato Corporation into Acorn’s Hall of Fame at an honor banquet recently held in Stevens Point.
 
The Thorp High School principal announced the top ten academic students within the graduating class of 1982: Lisa Baker, Peggy Burzynski, Kevin Butek, Heidi Hoffman, Robert Kotecki, Erin McCredden, Dennis Postler, William Rademaker, Julie Slipek and Francis Wadzinski.
 
10 Years Ago (1997)
 
Randy Klapatauskas presented a motorized chair to the Thorp School District on behalf of the Thorp Lions. The chair will be used by handicapped students for greater mobility around the school.
 
Forty-five FFA members from all over Clark County were at the Wally and Denise Milas farm to compete in a practice dairy judging competition.
