100 Years Ago (1907)

Stanley Sunbeams – The commencement exercises of the Stanley High School are to take place at the opera house on Monday evening, May 27th.

Wm. Walsdorf has had the interior of the Thorp Opera House redecorated and painted. Not many places of this size can boast of as large and handsome an opera house at this time.

Everybody was there. Where? Why Barnesdale’s moving picture show, which held forth at the Thorp Opera House on Monday and Tuesday evenings.

A high school ball nine was organized last week with the following members: Pitcher – Harry Michaels, Catcher – Howard Daniels, First Base – Oakley Parkhill, Second Base – Harold Zillman, Third Base – Harry Bruneau, Shortstop – Leland McKittrick, Right Field – Clayton Daniels, Center Field – Wm. Phillipi and Left Field – Walter Weaver.

75 Years Ago (1932)

Ground was broken on Monday for the new American Legion home to be erected during the summer. The building will be entirely build of lumber with split log siding, 30x60 fee in size, one story high and full basement, and is located directly north of the village water tower.

Roger Creek and Town Line – The Starks homestead has been given the name of Lilac Dairy Farm. Joseph Seufzer has named his place City Side Dairy.

Neiman’s Corner – Fire destroyed a house and barn on the Pliszka farm north of county line.

50 Years Ago (1957)

Clifford M. Wentzel, Curtis, Wallace F Lucas, Robert J. Sischa, Neillsville, and Jerome F. Tieman, Leonard N. Ciolkosz and Leaonard A. Ett, Thorp, were inducted into the Army.

A fire completely destroyed the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. John Sliva.

Frank V. Powell, 71, of Madison, who headed the State Bureau for Handicapped Children for 17 years, died Sunday in a Madison hospital after a long illness.

25 Years Ago (1982)

A new business has opened its doors in Thorp called The Grainery. The business is managed by Lucy Howsden, with Ken Fosterling as the sales clerk. The Grainery is located at 321 N. Washington Street.

Graduation for the 79 students from the Class of 1982 was held on Sunday, May 23 in the gymnasium of the Thorp High School.

10 Years Ago (1997)

Thorp High School Top Ten Percent: Kelly Albert, Brianne Bergman, Paul Depa, Kristin Goodman, Kelli Klapatauskas, and Sara Van Calcar.

Emma Miller, 17-month-old daughter of Mervin and Linda Miller, of Greenwood, was pronounced dead Wednesday, May 14, 1997 in the ER of St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, following a farm accident.
