100 Years Ago (1907)

Stanley Sunbeams – John A Rick, the pioneer butcher of Stanley, has sold his meat market and real estate to Victor Solie.

Bobb’s Mill and Country’ Round – The camps are beginning to claim our young men.  Five left last Monday for Kennan, Price Co., to go in camp for Henry Price of Withee.  They were Ed Rusch, cook, Louis Rusch, Christ Gorsegner, Oscar Booher and Edward Asselin.

W. Kubilinski has opened a land office next door to Jos. Klouda’s shoe store.

The Thorp Telephone Co. extended its lines from Eidsvold to the farm home of Mat Kass, north of there, last week.

Dr. P. McKittrick sold his residence property and office building to Dr. F. D. Jackey, of Stanley, last week, and contemplates locating in a larger city next spring.

75 Years Ago (1932)

Roger Creek and Town Line – Four percent milk is now bringing $1.04 per 100 lbs. at local cheese factories.

Breezy Hill Cheese Factory Neighborhood – The large fire that has been raging in the Circle land south of here for several days was quenched for the time being by the snow, which fell on Sunday.

County Line and ‘Round News – Mr. and Mrs. A Misoura had the misfortune of losing their house on Saturday morning at 5 o’clock, which was destroyed by fire.

50 Years Ago (1957)

A step-by-step account of death from the fangs of a snake was written by a former Chippewa County resident shortly before he died after having been bitten by a snake last week.  The complete diary was written by Dr. Karl P. Schmidt, an internationally known snake expert.  He was raised in the rural Stanley area and had been a summer visitor in Chippewa County only recently.  He was bitten by a 33-inch African boomslang in Chicago.

25 Years Ago (1982)

Dr. Kenneth Wallmeyer, M. D., opened the door to his new office located at 110 N. Washington Street in Thorp on October 4.  Working in the office are Sharman Archibald, registered nurse and Judy Strathman, secretary-bookkeeper.

10 Years Ago (1997)

“Outstanding Young Farmer” was awarded to Gail and David Baehr.

“Outstanding Young Business person” was awarded to Mary Sierocuk of Mary’s Floral Boutique.

“Outstanding Young Community Person” was awarded to Richard Wnek.

Sunshine and warm weather gave the first annual Thorp Pumpkin Fest a successful start.
