100 Years Ago (1907)

Stanley Sunbeams – Simon F. Anderson had discontinued his milk route in this city and is about to visit his native country.

The shortage of freight cars for making shipments is again to the front and promises to curtail shipments during the entire winter.

C. S. Stockwell of Neillsville, and Harry Hewett of the Town of Eaton have announced themselves as candidates for the office of county highway commissioner, a new office created by the last legislature.

75 Years Ago (1932)

Marian Durski, who founded and brought settlers to the village of Lublin and the Town of Roosevelt twenty five years ago, died Wed. Oct. 12, in Chicago.

Mrs. A. N. Sisco was severely burned when in the act of lifting a boiler of water from the stove. She stumbled and fell, scalding her face and arms.

Butlerville Budgets – Several attended the barn raising on Tuesday at the Earl Tieman farm, which was recently purchased by Chester Daines of Wisconsin Rapids.

50 Years Ago (1957)

In contrast to other years, two queens reigned during the Homecoming activities on Friday.  The co-queens are Diane Benzschawel and Ingrid Lindquist.  Co-captains of the colorful affair were Merlin Nevela and Harold Hallanger.

The drive for funds in Thorp for the addition to the Victory Memorial Hospital at Stanley, got off to a good start Thursday when Francis J. Conway, president of the Thorp Finance Company, presented Ross Lawrence, treasurer of the Thorp Fund Drive committee a check for $10,000.  The check was in addition to a $25,000 donation given earlier by the company to the fund.

25 Years Ago (1982)

Thorp School district in cooperation with UW-Eau Claire is participating in a Japanese internship program this school year.  Midoro Ito, known as “Miss Dori” to the students, is the intern assigned to Thorp Elementary School.  She is living with Paul and Judy Smriga.

Kandi Syryczuk was named to the All Conference team and Kate Kaz received Honorable Mention for their participation in varsity volleyball during the 1982 season.

10 Years Ago (1997)

Florian J. Tomkowiak was chosen “Veteran of the Year” and is being honored by the Allied Veterans Council of Cudahy on November 1, 1997.  He was one of four children born to John and Anna Tomkowiak of Thorp, WI.

Clark County Board Supervisors voted 17-8 Friday to keep the Clark County Health Care Center.
