100 Years Ago (1907)

Frank Rivers and family arrived here from Athens on Saturday last, and Mr. Rivers has taken active charge of the Thorp Dairy Cos. creamery as butter maker.

The Thorp Manufacturing Cos factory will resume operations about the middle of next week.

Dr. W. R. McCutcheon went to Rochester, MN, on Monday to spend the week in the mayo Hospital to witness up-to-date work in the surgery line.

75 Years ago (1932)

The Village Park Board have succeeded, through the courtesy of H. F. Hudson, the Northern States Power Company, the Whist Club and the Young Men’s Tennis Club, in furnishing the local ice skating pond with flood lights for use in night skating.

Mr. Wm. Endvick was accidentally shot in the ankle while hunting near Jump River Thursday.

50 Years Ago (1957)

Wm. S. Wagner, Thorp postmaster since April 1, 1933, when he succeeded the late John Verkuilen, retired from government service effective November 30, 1957.

Atty. Charles Senn announced this week that he has opened a law office at Lublin.

Word has been received here of the death of the Rev. George Crow, former pastor of the Thorp Methodist Church.

Robert C. Herman, 32, operator of Herman’s Tavern here for several years past, was appointed acting postmaster of the Thorp post office and took over the duties at the close of business on Nov. 30th, when the former postmaster was released for retirement.

25 Years Ago (1982)

Harley and Dorothy Svoma, owners of the Silver Dollar, just southeast of Thorp, received the Golden Butter Knife Award from the American Dairy Association of Wisconsin on November 30.

Mr. Dan Stroinski received a trophy on behalf of the Thorp IGA from Jerry Cronce, Meat Specialist of the store’s supplier.

Twelve students at Thorp High School inducted into the National Honor Society on December 1 were: John Bieno, Ann Oberle, Julie Sniegowski, Janelle Wincek, Evie Baehr, Kate Kaz, Eva Malecki, Jim Rademaker, Hans Hallanger, Rhonda Gerrits, Brent Kryzanski, and John Rademaker.

10 Years Ago (1997)

Thorp Electric Motor Service is celebrating its 50th year anniversary as a family owned and operated business.

Dominion President and owner Kalvin Burgess revealed preliminary plans for the proposed Correction Facility to be built in Stanley.

Four Cub Scouts received their Bobcat Badge on November 18th; Chris McCredden, Ricky Truckey, David Pszeniczny and Justin Messing.
