100 Years Ago (1908)

Stanley Sunbeams – S. L. Alexander, who has been a resident here for several years, has resigned his position as superintendent of the N-W L. Co. Brick yards at this place and accepted a more lucrative position at Fond du Lac.

A new post office has been established at Jump River named Fields.

The Pioneer Stock Farm owned by Wm. Burss now comprises 200 acres, Mr. Burss having recently purchased the NE ¼ SW1/4 Sec. 6-28-3 west, adjoining, from his son Riley Burss.  Consideration $800

75 Years Ago (1933)

New County Officers – County Clerk, Calvin; Treasurer, James H. Fradette; Sheriff, Herman Olson; Coroner, M. C. Rosekrans; Clerk of Court, Lewis Bradbury; District Attorney, Hugh Haight; Register of Deeds, Geo. E. Rude; Surveyor, S. F. Hewett.

Wednesday, November 30, 1933, brought to an end what will probably be considered Wisconsin’s most successful deer hunting season.

Members of the Lions Club and ladies and friends celebrated the coming of the New Year at a dancing party and basket social at the Legion Club House last Saturday evening.

50 Years Ago (1958)

Fifteen head of dairy and beef cattle, and a barn which has been converted into a refrigerator plant and slaughter house, were destroyed early Wednesday morning by fire of unknown origin on the Fred Barr, Jr. mink ranch about 7 miles southwest of Greenwood.

The local post of the American Legion will sponsor its Tenth Annual Ice Carnival with the aid of the Thorp Business-men at the rink near the swimming pool beginning at 1:30 o’clock sharp Saturday afternoon, January 18th.

25 Years Ago (1983)

The Thorp City Council under a comparatively light agenda passed a motion for an expenditure of $300 to help finance the work of a Baraboo firm hired by the county to seek industrial development with the county.

Lana Louis Osburn made her entrance into the world at 6:52 a.m., Monday January 3, and is the 1983 New Year’s baby at Victory Memorial Hospital.

10 Years Ago (1998)

After 22 ½ years of teaching and coaching Thorp High School students, Coach Earl Larson has accepted the position of principal at Tigerton School.  Mr. Larson has held administrative certification since 1980.

City of Thorp Justin L. Rosemeyer was the recipient of the American Hometown Leadership Award for outstanding leadership of communities with populations of 25,000 or less.
