100 Years Ago (1908)


Stanley Sunbeams – Among the many large attractions at the celebration of the fourth here, will be daring feats of horsemanship by a genuine ex-Russian Cossack.

Lightning struck an electric light wire at the Thorp Manf’g Cos. Factory about noon on Monday and started a blaze, which was quickly discovered and put out.

75 Years ago (1933)

Five weeks after his wedding, 17 years ago, John S. Bogumill lost his wedding ring. A few days ago his father, Joseph Bogumill, pulled a handful of white radishes from their garden. Encircling one of the radishes was the long-lost wedding ring.

Iz Przyzylski was appointed manager and Floyd Cook truck driver of the Farmer’s Oil Co-op at a meeting of the board of directors on Monday night last.

Frank Salwach of Owen has opened a new shoe store in the Slota building.

Anton Lesniewski was kicked by a horse on Tuesday of last week and rendered unconscious for three hours by injuries to his head.

50 Years Ago (1958)

The Rev. Cecil Ward has been reappointed to serve the Methodist Church here for the coming year.

Breezy Hill News – Harvey Seaman has purchased the Robert Broeren farm and taken possession. The Broerens have the Seaman house, which they plan to move to town.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Benzschawel entertained about fifty relatives and friends at their home here on Sunday afternoon, June 22nd on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary.

25 Years Ago (1983)

A former Lublin resident lost his life as a result of an accident on Sunday morning, June 19. Roy Halida died of head injuries after he lost control of the car he was driving on a Marshfield street, hitting a parked semi trailer tractor.

The City of Thorp has contracted with a firm to repaint the city water tower.

Goggle Eye Trap Club was host to the annual STOW Girl Scout Day Camp. Girl Scouts from Stanley, Thorp, Owen and Withee gathered for 3 days of work and play, June 13-15. The theme was “Frontier Days”.

10 Years Ago (1998)

It took initiative, community involvement, creativity, and work to make it happen, but the City of Thorp now has its own official municipal flag.

David Olson, Thorp, will be ordained to the priesthood on Saturday, June 27, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman in La Crosse.

Darwin Zwieg announced his candidacy for a tenth term as Clark County District Attorney.
