100 Years Ago (1908)

Reseburg Ramblings – The following new buildings have been erected in this vicinity this year: Marlen Harness, a barn, size 36x76 ft; Ph. Mattes, barn 36x60 ft; Mrs. Aug. Pagel, barn 40x80 ft; Jerry Asselin Jr., barn 30x70 ft; John Peter and Jacob Lockbahn have each added additions to their barns; a new Lutheran church 32x50 ft in size. 
 
The shipments of butter and cheese from this station, last week, exceeded 22,000 pounds.
 
Andrew Nelson has been engaged to operate the blacksmith shop located at Phil Mattes corners in the Town of Reseburg.
 
75 Years Ago (1933)
 
With the exception of corn, which is looking well in most counties, Wisconsin crops are much below normal.
 
Pineland Corners – The severe wind on Thursday night blew over the barn on the Anton Tomczak farm.
 
Neiman’s Corner – The following farmers have threshed with Neiman Bros.; St. Pabedinski, Geo. Meske and F. P. Neiman.  The yield is not as good as last year.  The kernels are much smaller.
 
Organdie Dresses $1.19; Batiste Dresses 98˘, Sport Dresses 98˘, Lawn Dresses 59˘, House Dresses 49˘ and Children’s Dresses 49˘.
 
50 Years Ago (1958)
 
Two young children died in separate accidents Saturday afternoon.  One is a 9-year-old boy who drowned; the other a 3-year-old girl, was crushed to death after falling from a hay wagon driven by her father.
 
More than a half-century of telephone history was transformed to an up-to-the-minute level in one quick stroke at Green-wood on noon Saturday as battery-type phones in that city and old wall-type instruments on rural lines were replaced by dial.
 
25 Years Ago (1983)
 
The Thorp Pentecostal Tabernacle announces a new pastor to the congregation.  Joining the tabernacle are Pastor and Mrs. David A. Dugas and their three children.
 
The passage of Special Assembly Bill 1 (Reapportionment) on Thursday, July 14, will change Wisconsin’s legislative districts for the remainder of this decade.  The bill changes the 57th Assembly District to the 69th.
 
Maureen Flynn, Dairy Dept. Manager of Thorp IGA, received top honors for her display in a June Dairy display contest sponsored by the Copps Distributing Company.
 
10 Years Ago (1998)
 
Excavation workers took a bite out of the street at the intersection of S. Clark and E. Prospect Streets in Thorp. The street demolition is preliminary to installing a water main and replacing a sanitary sewer.
