100 Years Ago (1908)

The Boston Store building has been leased to a Mr. Phillips of Chilton, who will open up a general store about Sept. 15th.
 
Phil Mattes raised his big new barn on Tuesday, a large crowd being present to assist.
 
Anton Stryk is erecting his new mill for the manufacture of box material, lath, etc., at the siding three miles east of the village.
 
John Rossman who was elected charter-man of the Town of Reseburg last spring has resigned his office owing to continued illness and Theo. Broeren has been appointed to fill the position.
 
75 Years Ago (1933)
 
Roger Creek and Town Line – Warren Jacobs traded cars last week and now has a Studebaker.  While attending revival services at Brownville Sunday evening someone relieved him of a spare tire.

50 Years Ago (1958)
 
The petition signed by 137 taxpayers to create an old-age home in Thorp was acted upon by the Clark County Board of Supervisors in session Tuesday.
 
Thorp has street signs!  Many a resident was surprised to find what street they lived on.
 
A glance at the building permits in the City Clerk’s Office over the past three months indicate there will be 11 new homes in Thorp and four will improve their property.
 
A delegate to the International Farm Youth Exchange will be living in Clark County with the Oliver Kesler family, near Greenwood.
 
25 Years Ago (1983)
 
The Thorp Dairy Days Committee (TDD) voted to remain a part of the Thorp Business Association at their meeting Monday, August 8.
 
The Thorp Volunteer Fire Dept. answered a call Wed. Aug 9 at approx. 2:30 p.m. to the Ed Maier farm, Town of Withee.  According to fireman Bob Bodamer, apparently Maier’s chopper box, full of hay, caught fire from sparks from his tractor.
 
10 Years Ago (1998)
 
Thorp City Mayor said, “Its dead in the water,” Monday night, referring to the city’s application for a block grant to construct a new fire station.
 
Oakbrook Manor, 206 West Prospect Street, Thorp, WWI will participate in the Wisconsin Health Care Association (WHCA) Super Senior Olympic Games on August 26.
