100 Years Ago (1908)

Ole Christenson returned from Canada last week and as soon as he sells his property here, he will move with his family there to live on a homestead.
 
Will pay 23˘ per dozen for eggs this week.  E. L. Snyder.  The Thorp Telephone Co. is extending its line south of town.
 
L. Phillips & Co. will open their new store for business on Saturday, Oct. 24th.
 
Wm. Soderberg has gone into camp north of here where he will bank logs for the Chippewa L & B Co.
 
Forest fires have been raging to quite an extent again during the past week.  About 100 cords of wood and bolts, belonging to settlers in the Town of Worden were burned on Thursday last.  On Saturday the Ruby Lumber Co. lost about 3,000,000 feet of lumber.
 
75 Years Ago (1933)
 
The Thorp Dairy Company’s milk plant was entered on Wednesday night of last week and the thief helped himself to one crate of eggs and fifty pounds of butter.  Entrance was evidently gained with a skeleton key to an outer door.  No arrest has been made.
 
Eidsvold Epitome – Walter Bratz has sold his cheese factory and store to Charles Flunker of Colby and they have taken possession.  Miss Vilus Haas and Raymond Gadke are still employed there.
 
Neiman’s Corner – Owing to the milk strike, C. J. Holzscuh closed his cheese factory here for an indefinite time.
 
Goggle Eye News – Theo. Woldt called on all his patrons Monday informing them of the farm strike and that no milk would be received at his factory after Monday.
 
50 Years Ago (1958)
 
The Thorp Rural Fire Department was called out at 11:00 p.m. Tuesday to the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Lenard Anderson, 5 miles west and 2 ˝ miles south of Thorp.  The house and contents were completely destroyed by fire.
 
On Saturday morning the Special Accounts Division of Thorp Finance Corporation, which includes the Mobile Homes Department, moved from their quarters at the branch office here to across the street into the remodeled Papierniak building.
 
25 Years Ago (1983)
 
The Thorp Area Development Corporation (TADCO) reaffirmed their goal to solve the problem of the ITT building at their monthly meeting held Thursday, October 13 at the Thorpedo.  Discussed was the possibility of acquiring the site so prospective industries would not have to purchase it themselves.
 
10 Years Ago (1998)
 
Delores Lewan of Withee was recently awarded use of a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am for outstanding sales achievement of Mary Kay cosmetics in her unit.  This is Delores’ third career car.
