100 Years Ago (1908)

C. L. Butterfield is building a barn 30x30 feet in size and had it raised on Thursday. – Vernon Prouty who had rented the Gleaser farm the past year took possession of L. Hayes’ farm last Saturday, which he with his son-in-law Geo. Vangorder, have rented for the coming year.
 
Stanley Sunbeams – Boomer Creek, on which the large tannery of the U.S.L. Co. is situated, at this place, fails to give in dry times the necessary quantity of water for the tannery purposes.  Consequently the Co. is building a substantial dam on the creek, which will create a pond of several acres in area, of good spring water.
 
75 Years Ago (1933)
 
Walter W. Bratz, who recently sold his cheese factory at Eidsvold to Chas. Flunker of Colby, is again back in the cheese game, he having purchased the White Way Cheese Factory and Dairy of Otto W. Freimund.
 
Neiman’s Corner – Several cheese factories in this neighborhood reopened for business last Wednesday owing to a report that the milk strike was over, but were ordered by pickets to close as the strike is not over.
 
50 Years Ago (1958)
 
The initial meeting, for the purpose of forming a Girl Scout Troop in Thorp, was held Thursday evening, October 30th at the home of William Boardman.
 
Mr. Harold E. Lowe, manager of Foremost-Blue Moon Cheese, Inc., Thorp, announces the affiliation of this company with Western Condensing Company, Appleton, WI, also one of the Foremost Dairies, Inc., subsidiary companies.
 
25 Years Ago (1983)
 
The LaGasses and staff members entertained an estimated 600 people at their 100th anniversary celebration held at the Thorp Legion Hall, Friday night October 28, 1983.
 
Jim and Judy Pfalzgraf were presented with the “Cream of the Crop” Award for using 100 percent dairy products at their restaurant, the Thorpedo.
 
The 50th wedding celebration of Stanley and Martha Wargolet of rural Thorp was held on Saturday, October 1, 1983.
 
 
10 Years Ago (1998)
 
In a visit to Thorp last week, Polish journalist Agnieska Siarkiewicz learned that the Polish descendants from the Thorp area are proud of their heritage and have kept their customs and traditions strong.  Agnieska seemed surprised that the old country foods are still prepared and eaten on a regular basis.
