100 Years Ago (1909)

Stanley Sunbeams – A bill has been introduced into the state assembly by C. B. Culbertson providing for a second municipal court for Chippewa County to be located at Stanley.—J. A. Lauer has opened a new hardware store near the Farmers and Merchants Bank.
 
Gilman Newslets – Mr. Snow has his drilling machine here now and they expect to have lots of water in a short time at the mill.
 
Mrs. Deland Tisdale died at her home in the Town of Longwood of cancer on Saturday last.
 
75 Years Ago (1934)
 
The large log machine shed with all its contents on the Adolph Burzynski farm in the Town of Roosevelt, burned to the ground on Sunday night.  All farm machinery and implements, with the exception of a hay loader, were in the shed.
 
Thieves again paid August Kuehl a visit on Tuesday night of this week, this time taking the ignition system, generator, and part of the steering gear, etc.
 
A nucleus of a fish and game propagation club was organized here on Wednesday evening of last week by a number of Thorp Sportsmen.  This club will be known as the Thorp Fish and Game Propagation Club.
 
Announcement has been made by J. L. Hewitt of the remodeling and enlarging of Hewitt’s Variety Store located on North Washington Street in the village.
 
50 Years Ago (1959)
 
 Leif Larson, Proprietor of Larson’s Fed Store received an award from the district sales manager of Smith-Douglas Fertilizer Co., for 10 years of loyal and capable service.
 
Mrs. Lawrence Eslinger, 73, Rt. 1, Stanley, died at the hospital in Stanley about 5 p.m. Friday of injuries received earlier in the afternoon in a head-on crash on Highway 29 just south of that city.
 
25 Years Ago (1984)
 
The Thorp FFA Alumni recently purchased an ice cream machine for the multi-purpose room at Thorp High School.
 
One student from THS will have an exhibit on display at the seventh annual Student Art Exhibition at the Lehigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, scheduled for March 3 through April 1.  Yvonne Messing, a sophomore, had her chalk work entitled “The Shadows” selected for the show.  It is one of the 159 pieces to be represented by the grades 10-12 category.
 
10 Years Ago (1999)
 
Jim and Judy Pfalzgraf were recognized by the Thorp Business Association at their February meeting held at Hidden Haven for their ou0tstanding contribution as business owners to the Thorp community.
 
Bishop Raymond Burke visited Oakbrook Health and Rehabilitation on Monday, March 1st.  Bishop Burke blessed the residents and led them in prayer.
