100 Years Ago (1895)

An infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Minard died on Saturday evening last the funeral taking place on Monday.
 
L. O. Garrison will move into his new residence on the hill the latter part of this week.  He has a large roomy and neat residence on the best location in the village.
 
Two oxen were found dead in the field on the N.W.L. Cos. Farm south of here after a storm one day last week and it is supposed they were struck by lightening (lightning) though not a mark could be found upon them.
 
A terrific wind and rain storm occurred on Sun. afternoon, last, but little damage resulting in this immediate vicinity.  At Boyd, B. E. Taylor’s store front was blown in; at Stanley two Northwestern mill stacks were blown down and also the stack at Nye, Lusk & Hudson’s Mill at Eidsvold.
 
75 Years Ago (1920)
 
Butlerville – on Wed. Sept. 8th at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Butler occurred the marriage of their daughter Ruth to Ernest Schoemaker of Augusta.
 
Meyer’s Corner – Ernest Halterman has sold his farm to a Mr. Lundy from Illinois.  He will take possession in the spring; Consideration $5,000. – Born to Max Schultze and wife, Fri. Sept. 17th a baby boy.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Kowalski on Monday.
 
George Klak is taking a course in letters and science at Marquette University at Milwaukee.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Aug. Fahlbash of the Town of Thorp on Tuesday, September 14th.
 
Paul Glowacki purchased the Lusk residence on Mon. from Victor Solie who recently purchased the same from Mrs. Lusk.
 
Miss Vivian Tiedeman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Tiedeman, and Jack Garvue, of Abbotsford were united in marriage at Minneapolis on Monday, September 20th.
 
George Boie, age 36 years, son of John Boie of this village, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Chippewa Falls on Wed. Sept. 15th of inflammatory rheumatism and heart trouble.
 
50 Years Ago (1945)
 
Miss Minnie Saxe, 64, passed away at the Victory Hospital at Stanley, Sept. 17, after a short illness.
 
Frank Rogalski, 55, former resident of Thorp, died Wednesday noon, September 19.
 
On Sept. 3rd at the Rectory of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Seattle, Wash., Lt. (jg) Betty Ann Hollander, U.S.N.R., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tyre H. Hollander of Seattle, became the bride of Cpl. Seldon VanderWegen, U. S. Army son of Mrs. Florence VanderWegen, of Thorp.
 
Cpl. Orville Asselin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Layton Asselin, of Thorp and Miss Marion Janisewski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Janisewski, of Stanley, were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Parsonage at Stanley Tuesday afternoon, September 18th.
 
Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Krych that a baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dudkiewicz, of Chicago, on Sept. 6th.  Mrs. Dudkiewicz is the former Josephine Bujalski, formerly of Stanley.
 
Mrs. Kenneth Anderson, 38, died Thurs. at her home in the village of Abbotsford.  Mrs. Anderson is the former Mildred Margaret Fults, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fults, Abbotsford, was born in the Village of Thorp Aug. 11, 1907.
 
Miss Anne Bartosiewicz, daughter of Mr. Louis Bartosiewicz, became the bride of Frank Borysiak, son of Mrs. Balbina Borysiak, of the Town of Thorp at St. Hedwig’s Church, Thorp on Sat. morning, Sept. 15th.
 
25 Years Ago (1970)
 
Winners of the bicycles given away at the 5th Anniversary of Thorp “66” Service Station here last weekend were Arnold Truckey, tandem bike, Steven Merlak, boy’s bike and Debbie Wiles, girl’s bicycle.
 
Gene H. Zaske, Nayzata, MN, has been named to the new position of operating and finance director of Dayton Jewelers, a group of five fine jewelry companies operated by Dayton Hudson Corp.
 
The Rev. Michael G. Mertens, pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard, is being honored this month for 25 years in the priesthood.
 
St. Hedwig’s Catholic Chapel, Thorp, was the setting for the marriage ceremony of Delores Rose Malaszuk and Robert Lee Gardner on Sat. Sept. 2.
 
Elizabeth Ann Sebunia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Sebunia, became the bride of John Louis Lorenz, son of Mrs. Jean Lorenz, Chicago, on Sat. Aug. 1st at St. Stanislaus Church, Lublin.
 
Miss Patricia Nancy Sayles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sayles, Curtiss, became the bride of Charley David Heath of Plum City, WI on Saturday, Aug. 29th at Faith Evangelical Free Church, Stanley.
 
Breezy Hill – A son, Casper Kenneth, weighing 8 lbs 7 oz. was born to Mr. and Mrs. Casper Haas Jr. at the Stanley Hospital on September 16.
 
10 Years Ago (1985)
 
Carrie Brunett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Brunett, Thorp, exchanged marriage vows with Emory Budzinski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Budzinski, Thorp on Sat. June 29, 1985 at St. Bernard’s-St. Hedwig’s Church.
 
United in marriage on Aug. 17, 1985 at Sacred Heart Church, Edson, were Lori Gindt and Terry Wnek.
 
After suffering through 90 degree heat through early Sept., Thorp residents got a taste of the other extreme Tues. with an early snow flurry.  Only two days into Fall Mother Nature gave us 33 degree temperature, rain, snow, hail and later a little sunshine.
 
When asked on Mon. Sept. 16th about the status of the land purchase and sale agreement that helped bring BTI, Inc. to the Thorp Industrial Park, Mayor Keating said “All transactions have not been full recorded and documented yet.”  That is, the city at that point had yet to formally approve the deal in an open session of the council.  The Thorp City Council held a special meeting Thurs. night, Sept. 19 to finalize the deal.
