100 Years Ago (1895)

On Fri. Sept. 27th, 1895 at the residence of her parents in this village, Clara, 25, wife of Charles Robelia and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Heagle, died after an illness extending over a period of several months.
 
A pair of twin girls was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Aucutt on Tuesday.
 
C. D. Bichards has exhibited the largest potato at his office so far this season, it weighing three pounds and thirteen ounces.  Henry Goff takes credit for the largest onion, one pound and three ounces.
 
75 Years Ago (1920)

 
Miss Doris Mosher is attending the Normal at Stevens Point.
 
Fred Koller has taken the position of cheesemaker at the Wild Cherry Factory in place of Frank Jager Jr. resigned.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jack VanHulz, Sept. 17th, at Kaukauna.  Mrs. VanHulz was formerly Miss Cordula Fischer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fischer of this place.
 
Flora Bratz was born on the 29th of April 1891, in Thorp and passed away on the 21st September, 1920 of an acute attack of appendicitis.
 
The school year 1920-21 opened with a corps of new teachers in every department.  Following is the enrollment: Primary, Miss Bessie McKenzie; second grade, Miss Pearl Day; fourth grade, Miss Mabel Hansen; sixth grade, Miss B. Bound; eighth grade, Miss M. Winegarden; Miss Elsie Preus, History; Miss Gladys Larson, English and Library; Miss Anna Rooch, Dom. Arts; Mr. L. Lindquist, Manual Arts; Mr. J. L. Johnson, Principal.
 
50 Years Ago (1945)
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Schultz Sun. Sept. 30th, at the Stanley Hospital.
 
Forest Burrington and Miss Helen Van Shy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Van Shy of East Stroudsburg, PA, were united in marriage at the Reseburg Congregational Church on Sat. Sept. 29, 1945.
 
Edward Zajaczkowski, 23, died shortly after the noon hour, on Sat. Sept. 29th, of injuries received when the saw broke on the sawing machine upon which he was working.
 
East Worden – An eight and one-half pound baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bielecki on Saturday evening.
 
Ruby Newslets – Miss June Bonn and Florian Hagan were married on Wed. Sept. 26, 1945.
 
A pretty fall wedding took place on Sept. 29, 1945, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Hansen, Sr. in Thorp, when their daughter Regina Helene, became the bride of John Paul Kummer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Kummer, Sr. with Rev. Sprengler officiating.
 
Ernest Venzke, son of Mrs. Johannah Venzke, of Milan and Miss Mary Jean Rasmussen, granddaughter of Mrs. Peter Rasmussen, were married at the Gospel Tabernacle at Milan, Sat. afternoon Sept. 29th.
 
25 Years Ago (1970)

 
Katherine Twarowski, 80, passed away Sat. Sept. 26 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Bill Zukowski.
 
Kenneth W. Morgan, son of Mrs. Julius Morgan, Thorp enlisted recently in the Air Force.
 
Roman Czech, 83, passed away at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley on Sunday, September 27.
 
Miss Natalie Ciolkosz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alois L. Ciolkosz, Thorp, became the bride of Robert Andruskiewicz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Andruskiewicz, Withee on Sat. Sept. 12th at St. Stanislaus Church.
 
Bouquets of glads banked the altar of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Thorp as Miss Jacqueline Johnson of Wausau exchanged her wedding vows with Gary Lee Boie of Thorp on September 4th.
 
On Sept. 14, a baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Morin of St. Paul.  His name is Cory Christopher.
 
Yellow and copper mums were on the altar of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for the marriage of Judith Ann Greathouse and Harvey Lee Rossman on Saturday, September 26th.
 
10 Years Ago (1985)

 
Funeral services were held for Adelaide Dums, 66, in Chicago, Sept. 25, 1985, who passed away Sun. Sept. 22, 1985.
 
Joseph Paczkowski, 89, Withee, was found dead Sat. afternoon, Sept. 28, 1985 in his yard.
 
Elmer B. Loew and Lorena A. Lenz, both of Peoria, Arizona exchanged marriage vows on Sat. Sept. 21, 1985 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
