100 Years Ago (1895)

The family of section foreman J. F. Rodgers arrived from Emerald last week and has taken up their residence here.
 
B. R. Rusch moved into his new residence a few days ago, although not quite completed.  It is one of the handsomest in this community.
 
Peter Deforth Jr. has recently secured the agency for the celebrated Badger State Fanning Mills.
 
75 Years Ago (1920)

 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Swinton of Gilman Nov. 23rd.  Stanley Manicki and family and Chas. Herman and family moved into their new modern residences on Saturday last.
 
Peter Van Ert purchased one acre of land located near the Northfork River adjoining his farm, from Jack McTague on Mon.  Mr. McTague is returning to his home in Canada.
 
Correction – In the Town Line Topics a few weeks ago when it stated: A little daughter is said to have arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Vanderhyden one day last week, The Courier was informed it was not true.
 
50 Years Ago (1945)

 
A very pretty wedding took place at St. Hedwig’s Church on Sat. morning, Nov. 24 when Father Rucki joined in holy bonds of matrimony, Leon Nowobielski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Nowobielski and Genevieve Kopacz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kopacz, of Thorp.
 
Corwin C. Guell, who spent the past 31 months in the U. S. Naval service, was released at Great Lakes, Ill. separation center on Nov. 20, and will resume the general practice of law on or about Dec. 1st at the village of Thorp.
 
Chas. Possley sold the building on Washington St. formerly used as a chicken hatchery, to Jake Smith recently.
 
A pretty wedding was solemnized at St. Bernard’s Church, Thurs. Nov. 29th, when Romilda Kocherer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kocherer and Donald Hassing, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hassing, both of Thorp, were united in marriage.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Joe S. Jarocki, of Thorp, announce the marriage of their daughter, Josephine, to Mr. Jerome Dolatowski, an ex-service man.  The wedding took place at St. Helen’s Church in Chicago on Sat. Nov. 24th.
 
25 Years Ago (1970)

 
Stanley recorded its first highway fatality of the year when Mrs. Tom Mohr, about 48, route 1, died at a Rochester, Minn. hospital Monday morning.
 
A former Owen-Withee physician and surgeon, Dr. George A. Le Gault, 82, died Friday morning in Lake Worth, Florida.
 
Funeral services for Harley A. Nerdrum, 61, who died Nov. 20, were held Nov. 23 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Stanley.
 
Josephine Hoffman, 74, of Thorp passed away suddenly of a heart attack on Tues. Nov. 24.
 
Breezy Hill – Sp/4 Larry Haas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Haas, who has been in Vietnam, was discharged the 7th and is now at his home here.
 
Lublin – Mr. and Mrs. James Sahr are proud to announce the new baby they were gifted with.  The baby, a girl, was born Nov. 24 and named Kathryn Shawn. – Mr. and Mrs. Florian Lisiecki celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sat. Nov. 28, at St. Stanislaus Church.
 
10 Years Ago (1985)
 
Our readers in other states may miss their home town from time to time, but Nov. 30-Dec. 1 was one weekend they may be happy to have been away.  After an already record-setting snowfall in Thorp, Thorp was hit with a blizzard dumping well over a foot of snow.
 
Frank Tomkowiak, 79, Thorp, died Sat. Nov. 30, 1985 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.
 
Gilbert R. Hardy, 101, Withee, died Mon. Nov. 25, 1985 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.
 
Airman David J. Kosik, son of Edward J. and Cora M. Kosik, Thorp, has been assigned to Sheppard Air Force in Texas after completing Air Force basic training.
 Four students from Thorp have been given the Chancellor’s Award for academic excellence during the second semester at UW-Stout in Menomonie.  They are: Kevin Butek, Jayne Giwjona (Giwojna), Lisa Melcher and Christine Petranovich.
