100 Years Ago (1896)

The Good Templars Lodge held an open installation on Saturday evening last.
 
Isaac A. Smith is now located at Cripple Creek, Col., where shares come high.
 
E. R. Wiley purchased Oliver Dostelier’s farm, east of the village, last week, for $1,000.
 
Joseph Helgoth, a man who has for several years been traveling about from place to place was found dead alongside the railroad track about one and one half miles west of the village by the section crew on Tues. morning.  Upon examination it was found that he had been struck by some passing train during the night previous and had been instantly killed as no signs of a struggle were visible.
 
The warm days of the past week has caused the snow to almost entirely disappear from the turnpikes and log hauling has about played out.
 
Albert Rusch Jr. had his left leg broken below the knee on Mon. while working in Stein’s Camp on Black River.
 
75 Years Ago (1921)
 
Neiman’s Corner – Anton Kotecki was appointed mail carrier on Route 4, Greenwood and will take charge of same soon. – Mr. and Mrs. I. Wojtkiewicz gave a silver wedding party Sun. afternoon, the occasion being their 25th wedding anniversary.
 
Thorp city basketball team lost their third game out of twelve played; at Chetek on Fri. evening last 20-27.
 
Arthur Borck, who has been operating a camp near Glidden, returned home on Fri. last with his crew, having completed his logging job.
 
Mike Malinowski succeeded in killing a wolf on Wed. of last week.  This makes two wolves and seven foxes he has killed during this winter.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Anton Fischer arrived here on Sat. last and will reside on the Fischer farm south of the village.  Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fischer are moving to their residence in this village this week.
 
Frank Hedler, Jr., 32, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hedler of the Town of Reseburg died on Mon. morning last at his home in that town. The young man had been employed in W. E. Barrett’s camp north of Owen during the winter.  About two weeks previous to his death he was injured by a rolling log.

A three o’clock Sat. afternoon, Jan. 19th a very beautiful wedding was solemnized at St. Ferdinand’s Church, Chicago, when Miss Francis Luzinski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Luzinski, of Lublin, became the bride of Leonard Wojiechowski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Wojiechowski, of Chicago.
 
Lucille Ann, 3 months, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Olejniczak, died on Jan. 26, 1946.
 
Geraldine Adeline Anason, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Anason, of Stanley, became the bride of David Creighton Porter, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Porter of Chicago at the Norwegian Church at Stanley, Sat. afternoon Jan. 26th.
 
Butler – A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Morrison, Jan. 31st at the Greenwood Hospital – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Victor Kuehl at the Greenwood Hospital, Feb. 5th.
 
James Frenette, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. VanLoo, of Thorp and Miss Dorothy Czech, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roman Czech, of Thorp, were united in marriage at St. Hedwig’s Church, Wed. morning Jan. 23rd.
 
Miss Lorraine Maricle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Maricle, of the Town of Reseburg, and Stanley Janezich, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Janezich, Willard, exchanged wedding vows before Judge Oscar Schoengarth at the Courthouse at Neillsville, Feb. 2 at 11:20 a.m.

Mrs. Otto Hiller, Plymouth, Wis. passed away Saturday, January 30th.
 
William Reichert, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Reichert, passed away suddenly Wed. Feb. 3rd in Minneapolis, at General Hospital.
 
Born to, Mr. and Mrs. Decon Hedler, a 7 lb. 4 oz. girl on Jan. 19th at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls.  She was named Sue Ann.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hadzima of Chicago are the proud parents of a son, born Fri. Jan. 29, weighing 7 ½ pounds.  Mrs. Hadzima will be remembered here as Karen Alger.
 
Stephen F. Gospodar, 82, resident of Lake Windsor, Wis., died Sun. Jan. 31 at Madison.
 
Sherman S. Biddle, 62, of Mulino, Oregon passed away at Oregon City Hospital early Fri. morning, Jan. 9.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Nevala were honored at a silver wedding anniversary surprise party, Jan. 16, at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin (Nancy) Graski, Withee.

Walter Dahm, 86, Town of Reseburg, Thorp, died Sun. Feb. 2, 1986 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls.
 
Marie Mamayek, Chicago, died Sat. Jan. 15, 1986.
 
Kenneth Ness, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ness, rural Gilman, has joined the staff of Mount Telemark Lodge of Cable as a front desk clerk.
