100 Years Ago (1896)
Arthur, a two year old son of Andrew Anderson, of Stanley died of
brain fever on Wed. of last week. County School Supt. George E.
Crothers held a teachers’ examination at the school house on Mon. and
Tues. A bouncing baby boy was ushered into the world early on
Fri. last. Mr. and Mrs. Caesar Barth are the happy parents.
Ed Karlen of Monroe County has arrived and settled on the Seidensticker
farm northwest of town which he has purchased. 75 Years
Ago (1921) Field School – The little child of Mr. and
Mrs. A. Baran died at her home on Wed. last March 9th. She was
born Sept. 28, 1911, age 10 years. Gilman – News arrived of a
daughter born to Rev. and Mrs. Fillinger of Jump River last Fri. March
11th. Butlerville – Mrs. Martha Moore was born on Dec. 6, 1848
in the state of New York and died at here (her) home in the Town of
Butler, March 19, 1921. Mrs. Langwell and family arrived last
week from Iowa and have taken possession of the Theo. Albert farm
purchased last fall from H. C. Bushnell. Menomonie won the
American Legion tournament at Menomonie in the final game Sat. night by
defeating Eau Claire 24 to 23, Arcadia took third place and thorp was
awarded the cup for conduct and appearance. 50 Years Ago
(1946) A son, Gary Allen was born to Mr. and Mrs.
Andrew Biddle, March 20th at the Stanley Hospital. Justin
Rosemeyer purchased Lot 9 of the L. E. Bogumill addition from the
Bogumill Real Estate Agency and will erect a home on same in the near
future. Last rites will be conducted today at St. Mary’s Church,
Lublin, for Mrs. Joseph Szymoniak, 58, who passed away at the Marshfield
Hospital on Mon. March 25th. Joseph P. Jenkot, 20, passed away
at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn., on Thurs. March 21, 1946 after
a short illness. Otto Hiller bought a lot 70x135 on South Clark
Street last week from Andrew Kubera. Alex Badzinski purchased
two lots on the south side in Kubera Addition recently. Taft – A
son was born March 16th in Chicago to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rosemeyer.
Robert is in the service and is back on leave from Okinawa.
25 Years Ago (1971) Miss Joan Lynn Smith graduated from
the State Colleges of Beauty Culture at Wausau, Sat. March 13, after
successfully completing her training. The Production Credit
Association announced this week that Richard Wellner, Credit
Representative at the PCA Office in Thorp since July 1968, has been
appointed to the Branch Manager Position. Along with about 300
other barber-stylists and cosmetologists, Mr. Ken Malecki attended a
three-day scientific, educational seminar at the Pick-Nicollet Hotel in
Minneapolis. Frederick Weisenberg, resident of Route 1, Gilman,
died at Victory Memorial Hospital March 20. Louis Platt, 33,
passed away at Ramsey County Hospital, St. Paul, on March 22.
August Hahn, 77, died Sun. at Victory Memorial Hospital.
10 Years Ago (1986) Ruth Mae Mayer, 78, Thorp, died
suddenly at her home, Sat. March 22, 1986. Walter P. Bohn, 87,
died Tues. March 18, 1986 at the Thorp Care Center. Marie
Premeau, 69, Thorp, died Fri. March 21, 1986 at St. Joseph’s Hospital,
Marshfield. Army Pvt. Bryan P. Rossman, son of Harvey and Judy
Rossman, has completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot,
San Diego. Army Pvt. Paul Kaz, son of the James Kaz’s, Thorp,
has arrived for duty with the 602nd Maintenance Company, Fort Hood,
Texas.
