Aug. Hennings has moved to his farm south of town. The
village officers elected on Tuesday were: President, W. R. McCutcheon;
Trustees: N. P. Hansen, P. McKittrick, M. Willgen, Geo. Zillmann, Louis
Johnson, Herman Banderob; Clerk, Geo. Burke; Treasurer, C. Tiedeman;
Assessor, C. L. Adams 46, Max Weber 70; Marshal, I. N. Jones;
Supervisor, E. R. Wiley. 75 Years Ago (1921)
Reseburg – Reinhold Daniels has purchased the Mrs. Telford forty
acres and expects to move there in the near future. – The Barth saw mill
has started up operations on the Frank Wheeler farm, Albert Burchardt in
charge. – Thomas Korneszcuk who purchased eighty acres of land in
section 29 last year from Reinhold Daniels, has a large rollway of logs
ready for the saw mill, and expects to build a house and a barn this
summer. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Marlyn Blank of
Waukesha, March 31. Esther Kronberg who is attending Ripon
College spent last week here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike
Kronberg. A marriage license has been issued to John Biddle of
the Town of Reseburg and Miss Opal Olson of Langford, N.D. W. A.
Burss and Mrs. Martha J. Oakes were united in marriage at Daytona Beach,
Florida, on March 23rd. They will reside here. 50
Years Ago (1946) Edwin Ciolkosz, AOMS 1C, was
discharged from the U. S. Navy at the Separation Center at Great Lakes
on April 2nd. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gengler, a baby
daughter, weighing 7 ½ pounds, at the Stanley Hospital on Saturday.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Deuel Monday April 1st a baby girl; weighing
seven pounds, four ounces, at the Stanley Hospital. George
Peterson, 79, a former Thorp resident died at the Luther Hospital at Eau
Claire, on April 3rd. Mrs. Anton Pawlak, 77, passed away at her
home in the Village on Mon. April 8, 1946, after an illness of long
duration. Miss Kate Foley, 74, resident of the Town of Worden,
for over sixty years, was found dead in a chair in her farm home
southwest of Thorp on Monday morning last. Close to 100 acres of
Marathon County land, much of it covered with Jack pine valuable for
pulpwood have been wasted by fire last week. Bobb’s Mill – A
daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bobb at the Victory Hospital
in Stanley on April 6th. 25 Years Ago (1971)
Pearl Wasylko, 75, passed away Mon. evening, April 5, at
St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Victory Zielinski, 84, passed
away Mon. April 5, 1971. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Anderson of Eau
Claire are the proud parents of a baby girl, Kathy Lynn, born March
31st. She weighed 6 lb. 13 oz. Marion J. Andruszkiewicz,
formerly of Thorp, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Andruszkiewicz, Gilman,
has taken over duties as Navy recruiter in Menominee, Michigan.
The promotion of Barry Berdah to Manager of the Thorp Finance Corp.
office in Thorp has been announced by Jean C. Broeren, Executive Vice
President. Word was received here of the death of Casimer
Osowski, 75, formerly of Thorp, on Friday, April 2nd in Houston, Texas.
St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee, was the scene for the marriage
ceremony of Miss Judy Thompson, Thorp and Billy B. Buss, Withee on
Saturday, March 6th, 1971. 10 Years Ago (1986)
Thorp Firemen fought a barn fire at the Robert Rasmussen residence,
four miles west and ¼ mile north of Thorp, Wed. April 2 according to
Thorp Fire Chief, Ray Stroinski. The barn and an adjacent machine
shed were totally destroyed. The barn was not in use except for
storage, but equipment in the machine shed was lost. Irv Kreutz,
owner of the Cardinal Motel, recently opened a new business in the lobby
of the motel. The Cardinal Bait Shop will provide area anglers
with live bait and tackle. Robert and Adelyn Broeren will
celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary on April 9. A son,
Craig Robert, was born Tues. April 1, 1986 to Nancy and Joel Cance, of
Winneconne. Craig weighed 8 lbs. 10 oz. Grandparent is
Katie Ebben, Thorp. Rebecca Hoffman, daughter of Roger and Lucy
Hoffman of Thorp, has been named to the Winter Quarter Dean’s List at
the College of Saint Theresa in Winona, Minn. Two Thorp students
were among those who recently received their degrees from the University
of Wis.-Madison. Alice Jaskot received her bachelor’s degree in
natural science. Tony Blasczyk received his master’s degree in
electrical engineering. Word was received that Mrs. Bill (Addie)
Bachmeyer, former Thorp resident, of Medford, Oregon, passed away on
Sun. April 6.
