100 Years Ago (1896)

M. Wiltgen, E. L. Snyder, Cesar Barth, W. Gerbing, M. McCaffery, jurors, went to Neillsville on Mon. to attend court.
 
Several heavy showers have served to move the logs down river in good order during the past week.  Now the farmers want a chance to get in their crops.
 
Ben Krom, who has been under going medical treatment at Chicago for several weeks past, returned home on Mon. much improved.
 
75 Years Ago (1921)

 
Bonczyk’s Corner – Mrs. Hedwig Jakowicz, aged 80 years, died suddenly at the home of her son, Geo. Jakowicz, on April 11.
 
Bobb’s Mill – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pitzen on April 12th.
 
A six team baseball league has been organized and is to be known as the Northern Wis. League, comprising the cities of Stanley, Owen, Greenwood, Loyal, Colby and Athens and will play a series of twenty games during the season.
 
The marriage of Mr. Joseph L. Wojtkiewicz and Miss Evelyn Novak took place in St. Hedwig’s Church on Tues. morning, April 12, Father Kulig officiating.
 
50 Years Ago (1946)

 
Wm. Sands, 82, passed away at the hospital at Medford, of old age infirmities on Sun. April 21st.
 
Joseph Danielewicz, 87, an aged retired farmer passed away at his home in the Town of Mead, Wed. April 17th.  Death was due to a heart ailment, complicated by Asthma.
 
John Poppe, 58, passed away of a heart attack at his home in Marquette, Mich. on Thurs. April 18th.
 
Bobb’s Mill – Word was received here of the death on Sat. of Claude Colby, of Milwaukee.  Mr. Colby was a former resident of this community.
 
Frederick Pearson, son of Thos. Pearson of Pennington, Wis. and Miss Ruby Kubera of Thorp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kubera, were united in marriage by Rev. Peterson, at the Lutheran Parsonage at Ogema, Wis. on Tuesday after-noon, April 9th.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Aral Hobbs, of Wabash, Ind. announce the marriage of their daughter Mildred to Clarence Emil Welzien, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Welzien, Greenwood.
 
25 Years Ago (1971)
 
Residents of the Thorp area are invited to attend the Open House celebration marking the completion of the first five units of 20 units to be constructed for the non-elderly.
 
Reseburg – Larry Dean, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Walteraitis was baptized on Sat. night at the St. Mary’s Polish National Church at Lublin.
 
Bertha Dudansky, 65, passed away April 14 at the Victory Memorial Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
 
Mrs. M. J. (Beulah) Haas, 75, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away very suddenly of a heart attack on April 6, while visiting at the home of her son, V. Dale Haas.
 
Miss Pamela Jo Lee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn B. Lee, Bloomer, became the bride of Kenneth F. Haas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Casper Haas, Jr., Thorp, on Sat. April 3rd, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bloomer.
 
Ole Keith Starkey, 68, of Jump River, died suddenly Fri. morning at his home in Jump River.
 
10 Years Ago (1986)
 
Hattie Pagel, 91, City of Thorp, died Wed. morning April 23, 1986 at the Thorp Care Center.
 
Two people were killed in the Town of Reseburg, Tues. April 22, when a milk truck struck a van on CTH-O.  Mrs. Anna Oberholtzer, 44, Owen, died of massive head injuries, and her son Joel, 6, died of internal injuries.
 
Mrs. Clara Hablewitz, 102, formerly of Stratford and had resided in Thorp for 14 years, died Fri. morning, April 18, 1986 in a Wausau Nursing Home.
 
Alex F. Neiman, 77, Wausau, died Sun. April 13, 1986, in the Wausau Hospital.
 
Mrs. Frank (Elizabeth) Bandach, 75, Thorp, died Mon. afternoon, April 14, 1986, at the St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls.
 
George and Laurie (Drymiller) Palmer of Nurnberg, West Germany, would like to announce the birth of their son, Jonathan Michael, on April 9, 1986 at Victory Memorial, Stanley.
