100 Years Ago (1896)

Born on May 5th, to Mr. and Mrs. John Norton, a boy; on May 7, to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. VanHouton, a boy; Dr. McCutcheon attending physician.
 
Married: at the Douglas House in this village on May 7th by George Burke, J. P.; Mr. Edwin Schoolcraft and Miss Anna Chapman, both of the Town of Reseburg.
 
The new board of trustees held their first meeting on Sat. evening last.  Mayor McCutcheon presided and in his remarks upon assuming the chair, advocated economy and business methods in all departments of the public service.  The street and sidewalks will receive immediate attention from the new board.  Other projected improvements are a bell tower and fire bell, and a public fountain.
 
75 Years Ago (1921)
 
Reseburg – Born to Mr. and Mrs. John Lasczuk on May 2nd, a son. – Joe Melbinger had his gas light plant installed last week. – Born to Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Osowski on May 5th a son.
 
Solicitors were making the rounds hereabouts selling stock in a proposed independent gas, oil, etc. station to be erected here.  We understand the new corporation is to be capitalized at $12,000.
 
Mr. Frank H. Schmidt of the Town of Worden and Miss Mary Larmers of Wrightstown were united in marriage at St. Bernard’s Church on Tues. morning, May 10th, Father Neises officiating.
 
William G. Finnegan, 40, son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Finnegan, of this village, died of heart disease at his home near Humbird on Sat. morning last after an illness of several months.
 
50 Years Ago (1946)

 
On Tues. May 7th at nine o’clock in the morning at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church at Thorp, Miss Frances Florkowski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Florkowski, of the Town of Worden became the bride of Felix Zukowski, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Zukowski of the Town of Withee.
 
North Hillside – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson at the Victory Hospital on May 8th.
 
Alfred Zielanis recently purchased the Mrs. Rose Rutkowski farm in the Town of Withee.  Tony Wojt bought the Louis Kobylinski farm and the Kobylinski family moved into their residence the west part of the village which they bought from Ignatz Szymanski.
 
Ed Kobylinski has purchased the residence property of Anton Fischer (the old Albert Blank home) in the village.
 
Last Monday afternoon a fire of unknown origin broke out in the small barn and garage on the Chas. Krause property on the corner of Washington and Stanley streets.
 
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Andrews a bouncing baby daughter on Wed. May 8th.
 
North Donald – Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Redman are the parents of a daughter, born Thurs. May 9th.
 
25 Years Ago (1971)

 
It will be American Legion Days in Thorp when legionnaires throughout the seventh district from as far south as Cuba City and west to La Crosse start arriving in Thorp as early as Fri. evening for the two days 7th District Conference Sat. and Sun. May 15th and 16th.
 
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Boyd, was decorated with bouquets of glads and mums for the marriage of Patricia C. Nawrocki and Alan A. Romanowski on Sat. April 24th.
 
Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee, was the setting for the marriage of Miss Gloria Ann Kile and Donald Alfred Christen on Sat. May 1st.
 
Lublin – Mr. and Mrs. Bill Maas of Detroit, Mich., the former Nancy Halida, daughter of the Ed Halida’s, are the proud parents of a baby boy born April 28th at Detroit.  They named the baby Erick William.
 
10 Years Ago (1986)

 
William Lockbaum, 85, City of Thorp Trailer Court, died at his home, Tues. May 13, 1986.
 
Terry and Peggy Maier had their infant son, Brandon Lee, baptized by Rev. Puerner at St. Bernard’s-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Sat. evening May 10, 1986.
