100 Years Ago (1897)

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Butler on Sat. morning last.
 
L. O. Garrison, C. H. Sheldon, G. B. Parkhill and the writer attended the funeral of J. D. Wicker, an old settler at Colby on Tues.
 
Chas. Buss has sold his interest in the creamery at Greenwood to Frank Banderob and returned to his home here.  Herman Thomsen and Frank Banderob continue the business.
 
Geo. Ruscher Jr., employed by Nye, Lusk & Hudson at Eidsvold had his right leg broken in two places above the knee by a log which was being unloaded from a car on Wed. of last week.  Dr. McKittick is attending him.  The boys in the mill and yard raised a purse of over $60 to defray expenses.
 
The “Thorp Creamery” owned and managed by Mr. A. Albert is one of the solid institutions of the village and is backed by two thirds of the farmers within a radius of ten miles.  Every day, winter and summer, the creamery teams are on the road, calling at farm houses to secure the product from the cows, thereby saving the farmer much labor and do away entirely with the old way of accepting “store pay” and making unnecessary trips to town.

Butlerville – Born to Mr. and Mrs. Bert Morrison on Feb. 2nd a son.
 
Reseburg – The plans for the new school building in District No. 2 have been received. – The chimney on the residence of Henry Coates caught fire last Wed. night and caused some excitement for a little while, Captain Frank Wheeler of the Reseburg Fire Department being absent; Lieutenant Otto Sommer assumed command and took care of the blaze.
 
A nine pound daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Patchak Thurs. Feb. 2nd.
 
Paul Glowacki purchased lot 4 and 14 ft of lot 5 between the Odd Fellows Hall and Thorp Auto Sales Co., this week, of M. E. Lesniewski.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Karlen of Knapp at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Ziehr, Sat. Jan. 21st.
 
The marriage of Miss Eva May Alger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Alger, and Mr. Layton M. Asselin, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Asselin, took place at two o’clock on Tues. afternoon at the M. E. Parsonage in this village, Rev. Elwick performing the ceremony.
 
50 Years Ago (1947)
 
(Few lines are missing here) daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Guzniczak, became the bride of Joseph Sawczuk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sawczuk, of Greenwood.
 
Katarzyna (Micek) Mozgowiec, 53, was born in Poland, Aug. 15, 1893, and passed away at the Mt. Washington San., Eau Claire, on Feb. 6, 1947.
 
Rev. I. G. Droegemueller, pastor of the Lutheran Congregation here, moved his family into the new parsonage which was recently completed on the south side of the village last week.
 
Butler – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Much on Sun. Feb. 9th.
 
Tom Leonard Davis, seven pounds, arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Davis, Mon. Feb. 10, 1947.
 
25 Years Ago (1972)
 
Frank Burzynski, 87, passed away at his home in the Town of Withee on Sat. Feb. 5th.
 
Frank Penkala, 58, died at the Marshfield Hospital on Sat. Feb. 5th.
 
Peter Piwoni, 89, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Wnek, in the Town of Withee on Thurs. Feb. 3rd.
 
Tues. Feb. 1, 1972 an 8 pound 3 ounce boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert J. Voelker and was named Christopher Jack.
 
A baby girl weighing 8 pounds 1 ounce was born to Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Verkuilen on Feb. 2nd.  She has been named Cyntha Jean.
 
Funeral services for Paul R. Lee, 73, resident of Stanley, were held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Stanley.
 
Clifford W. Montag, 54, of Withee, died last Tues. at Neillsville Memorial Hospital following a heart attack suffered while at work.
 
Reseburg – Born to Mr. and Mrs. George Grajkowski of Mendota Heights, Minn., a baby boy on Jan. 24. They named him Eli Christopher.

Andrew Michael, son of Allen and Lisa Micke was baptized Sun. Feb. 8, 1987 at SS Bernard-Hedwig Church.
 
Monica C. Marek (Nee Pabich), Chicago, died Mon. Feb. 9, 1987.
 
Violet Dorothy (Tormey) Toft, 90, died at Calumet Homestead on Feb. 3, 1987.
 
Joseph Bartoszewski, 76, died Feb. 7, 1987 at LCT Memorial Nursing Home, Medford.
 
Taft – Ron Butler is happy to announce the arrival of a new grandson, Charles Murray IV, born on Jan. 31st, weighing 8 lbs. 10 oz.  His parents are Church and Anne Murray, who live in Walnut Creek, Calif.
