100 Years Ago (1897)

The heaviest snow storm of the season occurred on Thurs. night last, about ten inches falling.  The accompanying wind drifted the roads badly and team work was entirely suspended for two days.
 
Miss Mabel L. Manes, teacher of one of the departments of the village schools, and Mike Gorman went to Marshfield on Sat. morning last and were united in holy bonds of wedlock the same day by Rev. J. F. Young.
 
Joseph Gibson & Son have now completed their logging operations for the winter in Clark and Taylor counties.  They banked a total of 11,000,000 feet of pine and hemlock logs, which is considered a light winter’s work for this enterprising firm.
 
Stanley Sunbeams – Born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Klauck on Thurs. last, a son.
 
75 Years Ago (1922)
 
Butlerville – Born to Mr. and Mrs. James Brown on March 6th a son.
 
Town Line – A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Tepp of Stevens Point, Feb. 28th.
 
Pleasant View – The stork passed through this country visiting the home of the Stanley Szerlong and leaving a beautiful baby girl, March 7.
 
Born: to Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Calkins, March 5th a son.
 
Miss Lillian Welchen, formerly Miss Lillian Hadlock, died at the city hospital at St. Paul, of pneumonia on March 6.
 
50 Years Ago (1947)
 
Rev. Jas. Irish conducted funeral services at the Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon, for Mrs. Laura Alger, 73, who died here after a lingering illness, on Sat. March 15, 1947.
 
Kenneth Butterfield purchased the residence property of John Giwojna located on highway 29 last week.  The Giwojna will operate a farm in the Town of Reseburg.
 
Matt Rzetelny, 95, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Helen Pawlak of the Town of Longwood, March 7, 1947.
 
Butler – Mr. and Mrs. Chester Danielewicz and son moved to the farm in the Town of Reseburg on Thursday.
 
South Worden – Mr. and Mrs. Arnt Ricksford, of Chippewa Falls, are the proud parents of a baby girl.  She has been named Donna Kay.
 
Mrs. Allan E. Earle, 41, the former Phyllis Pawlek, of Thorp, died suddenly at her home at Janesville Mon. evening, March 10th.  She suffered a heart attack while eating dinner.
 
Reseburg – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Philip Mattes at the Victory Hospital on Tuesday, March 11th.
 
On Sat. March 22, at one of the most beautiful and inspiring ceremonies of the Roman Catholic Church, the Rev. Chester B. Moczarny, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Moczarny, of Thorp, will be ordained to the Holy Priesthood by His Excellency The Most Reverend John P. Treacy, D. D., in the St. Joseph’s Cathedral, La Crosse.
 
Charles Edward Kenner, 68, passed away at his home in the Town of Aurora, Taylor County, on March 9, 1947.
 
Yellow River – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Mousette, of Cornell at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls on Fri. March 14th.
 
25 Years Ago (1972)
 
The woman pilot and only passenger of a single engine plane escaped injury Fri. afternoon when she made an emergency landing in a snow covered field in the Clark County Town of Foster, about 2 miles north of Rock Dam.
 
Victoria Kudingo, 103, passed away on March 11, 1972 at the Gilman Nursing Home where she resided for the past two years.
 
Working Student, serving lunch to 500 students is a job Joyce Ebben, of Thorp, does daily at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where she is a part time hostess.  Miss Ebben, a sophomore majoring in psychology and sociology, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delton Ebben, Thorp.

Chester (Chet) Edward Goebel, 76, Gilman, died suddenly at his residence, Sun. March 15, 1987.
 
Cletus L. Ederer, 55, Boyd, died Sat. March 14, 1987 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls.
 
Jeffrey and Candy Meeker announce the arrival of their daughter, Brittany Marvel, born March 10, 1987 at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire.  The little miss weighed 7 lbs. 5 oz., 19 ¾ inch long.
 
Butler – On Sat. March 7th Miss Dawn Biddle became the bride of Mr. Ted Tabbert.
