100 Years Ago (1897)
Depot Agent H. A. Culler reports nearly fifty deer carcasses shipped
from here since Nov. 1st. Ferd Kleckner is engaged in pressing
hay product at the big N.W.L. Cos. Farm south of here, about 250 tons in
all. 75 Years Ago (1922) Chas Lindquist
is attending Teachers’ Training School at Antigo. Wm. Strassman
sold forty acres of land in the Town of Mead last week to Harold Mattes.
A. N. Yates sold his eight acre farm in the Town of Reseburg last
week to M. W. Miller of Stanley. The County Board is in session
at Neillsville this week. Supervisors Dr. W. R. McCutcheon, M.
Greisch, R. H. Tolford, R. Coates, D. Kienholz and D. L. Dare from this
portion of the county are in attendance. Miss Ida May
Piper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Piper of the Town of Thorp and Mr.
Otto Immanueal, of Fall Creek were joined in wedlock at Wausau on Sunday
last. 50 Years Ago (1947) Edward F.
Micke, 32, died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Barney Micke at
Stanley on Thurs. last, after a lone (long) illness. In a
train-auto collision five miles west of Thorp, Stanley Filipiak, 91,
Stanley farmer, was killed last Fri. evening. On Nov. 8th, St.
Adalbert’s Catholic Church was the scene of the wedding of Miss Lorraine
Kowalski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Kowalski, St. Paul, Minn. and
Anton F. Wyczawski, of Thorp. Taft – The late Geo. Mueller, who
formerly lived here passed away at the home of his daughter Martha in
Minneapolis. Joseph Fleischmann, 77, prominent resident of
Gilman, passed away at his home there on Fri. Mitterhoffer –
Word has been received here that Mr. and Mrs. Benny Kmiec are the proud
parents of a baby girl. Junction – Born, to Mr. and Mrs. John
Stasko, a son at the Victory Hospital at Stanley last week.
Northwest Thorp – Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kodl Jr. are the proud parents of
a baby boy, Raymond Paul, born Nov. 11th at the Victory Hospital at
Stanley. A daughter, Donna Marie, weighing eight pounds and six
ounces was born to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Borton, of Eau Claire, Nov. 11th.
Mrs. Borton will be remembered here as Mercedes Maier. A
daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Wojtkiewicz at the Stanley
Hospital on Fri. Nov. 14, 1947. Miss Dorothy Potapenko, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Potapenko, of Stanley, became the bride of Michael
Peleschak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Peleschak, of Lublin at St.
Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church, Lublin, on Sat. Nov. 8th.
Charles Possley received word of the sudden death of Patsy O’Keefe,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert O’Keefe, at Milwaukee. The
O’Keefe’s were former residents in Thorp. A telegram was just
received by Mrs. Mike Kronberg stating that Frank Banderob passed away
on Sun. last at his home in Huntley, Mont. 25 Years Ago
(1972) An elderly Stanley man became Chippewa County’s
16th traffic fatality when his car and another collided on State 29 at
County NN Sunday morning. The Stanley Police who investigated the
crash reported that the victim was Ben Western, 85, Stanley.
Stella (Mizerka) Leszewski, 85, died at Havenett Nursing Home, Owen,
Mon. morning. Joseph Bogdan, 91, resident of Stanley died Mon.
evening at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley. A daughter was
born Nov. 13 to Kathy and Bob Schumacher of Black Creek. The
grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gwiazdon. A daughter was
born Nov. 12 to Maritta and Stanley Kozikoski of Black Creek. The
grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gwiazdon. Walter J. Posda,
48, Route 3, Stanley, died Wed. evening at his home. Sat. Oct.
21, 1972 was the date chosen by Arlene Arciszewski and Denny Meyer for
their union in marriage at St. Hedwig’s Chapel, Thorp. Lublin –
Twins Kammie Sue and Paul Edward Kordus, great grandchildren of Mrs.
Mary Budrus of Lublin was baptized at Holy Rosary Church at Owen, Sun.
Nov. 12, 1972. White Birch – Mr. and Mrs. John Kott are the
proud parents of a 9 pound 11 ounce baby born Nov. 8th at Sacred Heart
Hospital, Eau Claire, and given the name of James Arthur.
10 Years Ago (1987) Joseph Losiewicz, 80, Thorp, died
Tues. evening, Nov. 10, 1987 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls.
Lance Olson of Thorp, son of Terry and Kay Olson, became the first
student from Clark County ever to win first place in the State
Conservation and Environmental Awareness Speaking Contest.
Lawrence (Larry) Collins, 80, Wausau, died Fri. Nov. 6, 1987 at his
home. Norman P. Mitchell, 51, Owen, died Tues. Nov. 3, 1987 at
his home. Stanton Martinson, 67, Union Grove, passed away at St.
Mary’s Medical Center on Tues. Nov. 10, 1987.
