100 Years Ago (1897)
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bratz of the Town of Worden
on the 26th ult. About twenty-five young friends of Miss Eva
Sheldon assembled at her home on Sat. evening last and enjoyed a few
hours of frolic and fun interspersed with music and everything which
goes with “having a good time.” The ox team, for years and
years the only means used for skidding logs in the lumber woods is going
out of use. We understand the Northwestern Lumber Co. has
discarded the ox team altogether and this winter is using horse teams
entirely for skidding purposes. As usual the village board finds
it unnecessary to assess a tax for village or general purposes this
year, there being sufficient funds in the village treasury to provide
for all needs until saloon license money is again collected next July.
The balance in the treasurer’s hands at this time is $1,159.97, of which
sum $600 has been appropriated to make the annual payment on the
waterworks loan, leaving net cash balance of $559.87 to defray expenses
until July 1st, 1898. 75 Years Ago (1922)
