100 Years Ago (1898)
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Herman Friess on Mon. Dr.
McKittrick was the attending physician. Miss Amanda Cordes has
closed the winter term of school in the district north of Withee and
arrived home on Fri. evening last. G. L. Hoseley and H. B.
Hoseley and H. P. Zeller, of lake Benton, Minn., have leased the Forest
Queen House of L. H. McGuire for one year and take possession on Mon.
75 Years Ago (1923) Reseburg – John
Lasiczuk sold his farm in Section 30 to John Twarowski this week. – A
burning chimney on the residence of Ceaser Barth, last week set fire to
the house and would have caused a bad fire but for the timely assistance
of our mail carrier, Louis Kaczor. John Dranginis, of the Town
of Reseburg and Miss Eva Thompson of Westboro were united in marriage at
Medford on Tues. Feb. 6th. The Sons of Veterans and families
enjoyed their annual oyster supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. N.
Sisco. After supper the Sons held a business session and officers
elected were installed: Commander, W. R. Allen; S. V. Com., H. W. Bull;
J. V. Com., Geo. Van Gorder; Chaplain, Isaac Sisco; Patriotic Ins., Roy
Brown; Sec.-Treas., Bill Warner; Guide, H. E. Howard; Color Bearer, A.
N. Sisco; Musician, Ph. Mattes; Inside Guard, John Rossman; outside
guard, H. Rossman; Council, J. A. Hobbs; A. M. Doane, E. J. Nimbar.
50 Years Ago (1948) William F. Darge, 65, died at his
home in the Town of Reseburg on Fr. Feb. 13, 1948 of Sarcoma, after an
illness of two months. Martin Western, 70, resident of Clark
County since 1902, passed away at the Luther Hospital at Eau Claire,
Feb. 5, 1948. Funeral services for Mrs. Ole Christenson, 78,
were conducted at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Stanley Mon.
Miss Jean Charlotte Kaczmarczyk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Kaczmarczyk, of Thorp, became the bride of Peter Wittek, son of Mr. and
Mrs. John Wittek, of Lublin at St. Stanislaus Church at Lublin, on Sat.
Jan. 31. On Sun. Feb. 15, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Izydorek
observed the 50th anniversary of their marriage. Eidsvold – Mr.
and Mrs. Alfred Baker are the proud parents of a baby girl, born on
Tues. Feb. 10th. Word was received here from Chicago announcing
that Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gutschow are the proud parents of a baby boy
born the 15th of Feb. 1948. Mrs. Gutschow will be remembered here
as Sophie Lang. Worden – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Wagner on Fri. at the Victory Hospital. – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs.
Klajbar on Sat. at the Victory Hospital. 25 years Ago
(1973) Friends and relatives helped Albert Wink, Sr.
celebrate his 90th birthday on Sun. Feb. 18th at the Frank Hodorowski
home. Work by North Central Construction Co., of Thorp, general
contractors, started Wed. morning on the new nursing home here on West
Prospect Street. A daughter, Sheila Marie, was born to Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Buss on Fri. Feb. 9, 1973. Adam Lesniewski, 84, (Mr.
Kapusta) died of a severe heart attack at his home on Feb. 4, 1973.
Samuel Abramczuk, 77, passed away Sund. Feb. 18th. Mrs. Helen
Sobczak, 91, died Wed. at Victory Memorial Hospital. Funeral
services were held for Salome Gladys Ondal, 68, who died Sat. at St.
Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls. Martin Wisniewski, 73,
passed away of pneumonia at Victory Memorial Hospital on Feb. 10, 1973.
Thorp High Cardinals take Cloverbelt Title, 63-57.
10 Years Ago (1988) Lorraine Ditmar, 50, Thorp, was
killed instantly Wed. Feb. 17, when the vehicle she was driving collided
nearly head-on with a car driven by a 25 year old Eau Claire man on STH
29 three miles west of Thorp. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Rawn of
Crookston, MN (the former Linda Baures) are proud to announce the
arrival of Rachel Marie, born Feb. 17, 1988. John Hanley,
Chippewa Falls, died Tues. Feb. 16, 1988 at his home. William
Marshall Karpinski, 98, formerly of the Town of Reseburg, died at the
Glen Terrace Nursing Home in Seattle, Wash. on Feb. 15, 1988.
Former Thorp officer and area resident Timothy Mils is completing the
final segment of a three-stage police management course coordinated by
U. of Wisconsin-Madison Governmental Affairs. Milas is currently
with the Mount Horeb Police Department. Katherine Walczyk, 97, died
Mon. Feb. 22, 1988 at the Medford Memorial Hospital.
