100 Years Ago (1898)
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Philip Mattes, of Reseburg, on
Mon. March 7; Dr. McCutcheon, attending physician. You cannot
promote the interest of your town by simply suggesting what should be
done. Suggestions are always in order but it requires energy in
motion to accomplish results. Sleighing is about “whipped” and
horse teams are enjoying a needed rest. The present winter has been
very favorable for loggers as the huge rollways in Nye, Lusk & Hudson’s
yards amply testify. 75 Years Ago (1923)

here in 1881 is to be dismantled and a new planing mill erected in its
place by the Thorp Lumber Co. The large farm north of Boyd owned
by the Yellow River Sheep and Wool Growers, Inc. association was sold
here last week Wed. to several parities, from Wausau who were
stockholders in the concern. We understand the farm and all
personal property were bid in at $27,000. 50 Years Ago

and Helen Papierniak of Thorp and Robert and Lorraine Jacobs of Hudson.
In his first year as a high school basketball coach, in Elk Mound
in 1949, Jack Tetzner led his team to a conference championship.
After four years in coaching, and three conference titles, Tetzner came
to Thorp High School. He led off with a division championship.
Thirty-four years later, in his last season as the Thorp High court
general, Tetzner will leave the profession like he came in-as a
champion. Sgt. Kevin J. Grendzinski, son of Alex and Hilda
Grendzinski of Thorp, has graduated from the Air Force non-commissioned
