100 Years Ago (1898)

Eidsvold – Everard Stering began the fall term of school in the Robert Creek District, Mon.  The school in Dist. No. 2 opened last week with Miss Mae Beebe of Stanley as teacher.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Arnold on Sun. last.
 
Owing to the hot weather the opening of the village schools has been postponed until next Mon.
 
Ben Krom shipped a car load of sheep and a car load of live beef to Chicago on Tues. morning accompanying the consignment himself.
 
Geo. Zillman has sold his farm in the Town of Reseburg to Geo. Bruerin of Plymouth. Also a dwelling and lot owned by him in the west part of the village to Jos. Klouda.
 
Henry Meyer, who sold his farm in the Town of Worden a short time ago, purchased a house and lot in the south part of the village of Herman Banderob last week.  Consideration $150
 
75 Years Ago (1923)
 
Bobb’s Mill – A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Buss on Aug. 26th.
 
Leo Ebben left to Brillion, Wed. where he will teach the coming year.
 
Miss Doris Mosher went to New Lisbon last week where she has begun teaching school.
 
Lydia and Evelyn Barrett left for Milwaukee, Mon. with their brother Delos, where they will now live.
 
A 7 ½ pound son was born to Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Erdman at Murray, Wis. Aug. 28th.
 
Edmund Gruszynski and George Plucinski, assistant cashier at the Peoples State Bank, spent Labor Day at Stone Lake, and returned home in the evening with a 27 lb. muskie.  It required 45 minutes to land the big fellow.
 
Miss Ida Kordek and Mr. Joseph Krakowicki were united in marriage at St. Hedwig’s Church, on Tues. Sept. 4th.
 
The officials comprising the local high school board entered into a contract with Erling Frastad to serve as supervising principal of the Thorp High School.
 
50 Years Ago (1948)

 
Fire which was discovered about 10:30 last Thurs. morning, destroyed the August Ehlert Cheese Factory and store located one mile east and 4 ½ miles south of Thorp.  The loss included all buildings and supplies.
 
Mrs. Paul (Katherine) Zwolinski, 80, passed away at the Stanley Hospital on Sat. Aug. 28, 1948.
 
Dr. and Mrs. Bernard Slota are the proud parents of a baby girl, Sarah Moore, born Thurs. Aug. 26th.
 
Married at the Methodist Church on Mon. Aug. 23, by Rev. James Irish, was Mrs. Emma Piper of Withee and Mr. Charles Parish of Chicago.
 
Reseburg – The Reseburg Store and Cheese Factory owned by John Worachek was recently sold to the Sniegowski Bros.
 
Butler – A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Conklin last week.
 
Eidsvold – Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schultz are the proud parents of a baby boy, born on Aug. 24th.
 
25 years Ago (1973)

 
Michael Steve Kryzanski, 16, died suddenly at Oconto Falls, where he was working on Mon. Sept, 10th.
 
Harold E. Koplitz, 57, Route 1 Curtiss, was fatally injured Sat. afternoon while working on a combine at his farm.
 
Funeral services were conducted at St. Joseph’s Basilica in Milwaukee, Tues. morning Aug. 21, 1973 for Mrs. Anne Tomkowiak, 68, who passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Milwaukee.
 
Mrs. Beverly Ann Regal, 39, wife of Allan Regal, of the Johnson Trailer Court, Stanley, passed away suddenly Wed. at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.
 
Miss Kathleen Marie Samplawski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Samplawski, Stanley, became the bride of Vincent Walter Pogodzinski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pogodzinski, Thorp, at St. Hedwig’s Chapel, Thorp, on Sat. Aug. 11th.
 
Bobb’s Mill – A baby boy, Terry Wallace was born to Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Gwidt of Wausau on Wed. Sept. 5th.  Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Vetterkind are the grandparents.
 
10 Years Ago (1988)
 
An early morning fire of unknown cause totally destroyed a barn in the Town of Thorp, Tues. Aug. 40 (30).  The fire was reported at property owned by Joan Kastel.  Ron Flaaten rented the farm land and barn.
 
Julie R. Hoffman, daughter of Roger and Lucy Hoffman, Thorp, was united in marriage to Peter C. Deleiden, son of Eunice Daleiden of Oconomowoc on May 28, 1988 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Thorp.
