Clarendon L. Smith, son of John T. and Mary Smith was born April 19, 1852

at Kenosha, Wisconsin and died November 19, 1925 at Browerville,

Minnesota. At 8 years of age he moved with his parents to Princeton, Green

Lake County, Wisconsin where he grew to manhood. He was married January

2, 1875 to Miss Emma Ferris: to this union were born three children. In

1878, he moved with his family to York Center, Clark County, Wisconsin

where he bought a farm and was one of the pioneer settlers of Clark County.

He lived here until the death of his wife March 22, 1912 when he sold his farm

and shortly afterward moved to Chetek, Wisconsin where he lived until about

five years ago, since then making his home among his children. In the year

1894 he was converted in revival meeting under the labor of Rev.

Brookmiller in the Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1895, he and his wife

united with the Free Methodist Church in which he lived a consistent

Christian life to the time of his death. The last year was spent in Minnesota

with his daughter where he made many friends. His abundant labor of love

endeared him to all. "He walked with God and was not for God to look for

him." He leaves to mourn his loss, one brother, Ellsworth L. Smith of

Corning, California. Two sons, Guy C. Smith of Loyal, Wisconsin; Lee F.

Smith of Middleton, Idaho; one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Kendall of Browerville,

Minnesota; thirteen grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. His

body was laid to rest in the York Center Cemetery, funeral services being

conducted by Rev. F. F. Wolfe of Milwaukee.
