Philo Platt
April 12, 1814 - July 22, 1894
Born in New York state, both Philo and Polly Platt were early pioneers of Clark County. They came to Loyal Township from Rubicon (Dodge County), Wisconsin. In 1850, Philo Platt is listed in the census for Fort Ann (Washington County), New York. At that time, he had three children living with him: Otis (who disappears after that), Mirabel, and Stephen. Mirabel (aka Myra) at the age of 20 (while living with family in Rubicon) married John Barney. He was a widower, aged 43, who had buried two children and a wife in Rubicon and had one surviving son. Mirabel and John had three daughters. Sometime in the 1870s they moved to Owatonna, Minnesota. In the latter half of the 1870s, John died. The 1880 census for Owatonna shows Myra as head of household with three daughters. In 1881, Myra married Richard Adams of Hersey, Wisconsin. Stephen Platt served with a Wisconsin unit in the Civil War and lived in Washburn Township for a while. He later moved to California and died there.[1] Both the 1870 and 1880 Federal Census for Clark County lists a Philo Platt (58) and (68) and a Polly Platt (56) and (67) living in Loyal Township. An 1880 plat map of Loyal Township shows Polly Platt owning land in Section 28.[1] Bill Nelson (great-great grandson of Mirabel Platt), 20 and 22 December 2001 e-mails
