George Root

June 21, 1849 - March 19, 1916

Born in Forest Township of Fond du Lac County, George Root was an early pioneer of York Township. The 1880 and 1893 plat maps show G. A. Root owning land in Section 28 that was later owned by the Hanuszczaks.  It is believed that George Root came to Clark County from Fond du Lac County circa 1870s.  The 1870 Federal Census for Fond du Lac County lists a George Root (20) living in Forest Township with his parents, Sylvester and Mary Root. The 1880 Federal Census for Clark County lists a G. A. Root (30) living in York Township with his wife Emma (25) and a daughter Chloe (1).  Another daughter of George and Emma Root's, Mary, is also buried in York Center Cemetery.
