Families from Forest Township (Fond du Lac County)

Often neighbors and/or families who had lived near each other at one time would end up re-settling in the same area.  The Census findings and map shown below indicated that the following early settlers of York Township, Clark County, Wisconsin had lived in Forest Township, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin previously.  Many of these settlers are buried at York Center Cemetery.

The 1847 Territorial Census for Forest Township, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin Territory lists the following families:

Adams, A. (3 males, 4 females):  Probably Abraham and Miranda Adams and their five children, Samuel, Amelia, Mortimer, Helen and Emory.

Benedict, Solomon (3 males, 3 females):  Probably Solomon and Saloma Benedict and four children, Adonijah, Henrietta, William and Mary.

King, T. P. (1 male):  Probably Timothy P. King before being married.

The 1850 Census for Forest Township of Fond du Lac County lists the following families:

Adams Family:  Lists an Abraham (41) and Miranda (34) living with six children:  Samuel (10), Amelia "Emily" (10), Mortimer (8), Helen (5), Emory (3) and Noble (1).

Benedict Family:  Lists a Solomon (49) and Flora* (33) Benedict with four children:  Adonijah (15), Henrietta (13), William (8) and Mary (6).  *Note:  Although Census lists Flora as her name, the name of Solomon's 2nd wife was actually Saloma per family records.  Also, Adonijah and Henrietta were children from Solomon's 1st wife.

King Family:  Lists a Timothy (28) and Charity (26) with one child:  Hannah (1/2)

Root Family:  Lists a Sylvester (30) and Mary (27) Root with two children:  Martha (3) and George (1).

The 1860 Census for Forest Township of Fond du Lac County lists the following families:

Adams Family:  Lists an Abram (57) and Miranda (43) Adams with ten children:  Samuel (21), Emily (19), Mortimer (17), Emmory (15), Helen (12), Noble (10), David (8), Frances E. (5), Eugene (3) and Arthur (6 months).

Gibson Family:  Lists a Samuel (44) and Orpah (39) Gibson with seven children:  Charles (20), Adam (19), Wallace (17), James (15), Francis (13), Edward (11)* and Martha (4).  *Note: Listed as Edward, but was probably was Samuel D. Gibson based on the age annotated.

King Family:  Lists a Timothy (39) and Charity (36) King with three children:  Homer (10), Frank (8) and Harriet (4).

Quackenboss Family:  Lists a George (42) and Christina (36) Quackenboss with five children:  Chester (11), David (10), John (7), George (4) and Sarah (1 month).

Rogers Family:  Lists a David (54) and Eliza (48) Rogers with twelve children:  David (27), Charles (22), Maria (19), Margaret (17), James (16), Mary(15), Nancy (13), Timothy (11), Ella (10), Sarah (8), Frederick (6), and Florence (2).

Root Family:  Lists a Sylvester (40) and Mary (37) Root with six children:  Martha (12), George (11), Newman (9), Amelia (7), Frank (3) and Sylvester (5 months).

Partial 1862 plat map for Forest Township, Fond du Lac shows the following properties for A. (Abraham) Adams, S. (Samuel) Gibson, T.P. (Timothy) King, G. (George) Quackenboss), D. (David) Rogers and S. (Sylvester) Root.

The 1870 Census for Forest Township of Fond du Lac County lists the following families:

Adams Family:  Lists a Miranda Adams (53) as widowed with six children:  Noble (20), David (18), Frank (15), Eugene (13), Ernest (10) and Delysle (8).

Gibson Family:  Lists a Samuel (56) and Orpah (49) Gibson with one child:  Martha (14).  Also lists a James (25) and Martha (22) Gibson, a Samuel D. Gibson (21), and a Francis (23) and Mary (22) Gibson.

King Family:  Lists a Timothy (48) and Charity (42) King with four children:  Homer (20), Frank (18), Hattie (14) and Edgar (5).

Quackenboss Family:  Lists a George (52) and Christina (46) Quackenboss with four children: Chester (22), David (20), John (17) and George (16).

Root Family:  Lists a Sylvester (50) and Mary (47) Root with six children:  George (20), Newman (19), Amelia (17), Frank (12), Sylvester (10) and Laura (6).

Rogers Family:  Lists a David (65) and Eliza (60) Rogers with two children:  Fred (16) and Florence (12).

Young Family:  Lists a Nelson (49) and Lucretia (29) Young with three children:  Coral (7), Otis (5) and Edwin (1).
