Verona Koehler
Verona Prechel Koehler, 94, of Wausau, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Verona was born March 11, 1912, to the late Henry and Ottilie Bauman Prechel in the town of Berlin. She married August Koehler on Dec. 20, 1930, in the town of Berlin. He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1988.
Verona was a homemaker. She and her husband lived and farmed in the town of Texas for many years. Upon retiring in 1967, they moved to Tomahawk. There they lived until returning to the town of Texas in 1985. She was a longtime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in the town of Wausau and belonged to the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Verona loved to sing, polka dance and fish. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed baking, cooking, rug weaving and all kinds of crafts.
Survivors include her sons Eugene (Lois), Wausau; Gilbert (Eunice), Merrill; Daniel (Joann), August (Sandra) and Bertram (Gail), all of Wausau; and Elmer (Nancy); daughters Joyce Woller, Merrill; and Marjorie (Charles) Schwede, Carol (Thomas) Wasmundt and Nancy (Donald) Hussong, all of Wausau; 28 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband August, son Virgil and sister Frieda Goetsch.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Wausau. Rev. Jamie Brei will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be Thursday evening, March 1, 5-8 p.m. at the church, and again Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
