Helen M. Ament, 82, of Merrill, died Friday, March 30, 2007, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.
Born Dec. 27, 1924, in Merrill, Helen was the daughter of the late Edward and Clara Dallman Zastrow. She married Fidelis Ament on Aug 10, 1946, in Merrill. He preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 2004.
Helen graduated from Merrill High School in 1942. She moved to Appleton during WW II to work in the paper mill. Later she moved back to Merrill and worked for a number of years at the former Rothlisberg Grocery Store in Merrill. Helen and her husband Fidelis also owned and operated the Avenue Bar in Merrill for 20 years. After selling their business, the Aments worked as custodians at Lincoln County Bank until their retirement. Helen was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Altar Society and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed going up north to Camper's Haven Campground north of Tomahawk and sitting around the fire. Helen especially enjoyed her grandchildren and making chili for them.
Survivors include her son Rick (Barbara), Merrill; grandchildren Jeff (JoAnn) Brandenburg, Jessica (Craig) Neumann, Rick Ament and Brad Ament, all of Merrill; great-grandchildren Jennifer and Zachery; and sister Florine Fondow, Green Bay. She was preceded in death by her husband Fidelis; daughter Peggy Brandenburg; granddaughter Carmen; sisters Dionne and Elaine and brother Edward "Hefty."
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. David Klemm officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted with the arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Trinity Ladies Aid.
