The couple farmed in the town of Pierce, receiving the Kewaunee County Outstanding Farmer Award in 1961. Following Henry's death in 1963, Gertrude lived in Algoma. She was a former Ladies Aid member at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Algoma. She enjoyed her family, completed hundreds of jigsaw puzzles and crocheted numerous afghans for family members and friends.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill and friends for their support.
